Bainbridge Island has done the right thing. Finally. The mayor of the community, six miles west of Seattle, has apologized for the way a U.S. veteran of the Iraq war was treated during a holiday parade there.

"People can thank Gilson directly by e-mail at this address: patrioticfamily@hotmail.com." Sounds good to me.

Does anyone have the video of this happening yet?

I am willing to bet my last shiny penny that if Gilson were marching in a Republican stronghold -- say, Midland, Texas -- and carrying a pro-Kerry sign, he would be barbecued faster than a longhorn steer. I doubt it.

I disagreed with that comment to. Now if he was wearing pink tights and bashing the military, he would be tarred and feathered.

message of support sent... what a disgrace that a wounded veteran was booed.

I am willing to bet my last shiny penny that if Gilson were marching in a Republican stronghold -- say, Midland, Texas -- and carrying a pro-Kerry sign, he would be barbecued faster than a longhorn steer. This is an unfair and illogical comparison. George W. Bush is the soldier's Commander in Chief. John Kerry doesn't come close to this position of authority or leadership. Kerry is merely running for office to attempt to attain that postion. There's a huge difference between the two. This soldier had every right to carry the sign he did to show his respect to his commander. That said I think this author is a notch above many others. I like his writing style.

That poor brave man. I sent him an email thanking him from myself and hubby (A Marine veteran). What in God's name can people be thinking?
(Strike that...They're NOT thinking.)

the parade announcer wrote a letter to Gilson in which she stated that she didn't mean to offend him.
Maybe I am getting too sensitive but this got my attention. I don't belive she understands what she did wrong. Too much Clinton doublespeak in the world.

People also can email Bainbridge's executive director of the island's Chamber of Commerce, who burped out this lil' verbal gem:
Dwyer added: "I believe (Jason's) mom when she said her son was called 'a murderer.' But I'm sure it wasn't so much directed at the kid as it was the president. A soldier with a sign represents that."

She apparently is a liar like Clinton as well. She didn't mean to offend him? Come on, she intentionally sounded sarcastic which baited the crowd.
