Could someone link to the thread "Terror in The Skies,Again ?". It was posted by big gray tabby on 7/15/2004 @ 1:12:48 PM. It is a frightening account of a flight from Detroit to LA. 14 Muslims were extremely suspicious passengers. Possibly a trial run on how to assemble terrorist equipment while plane is in flight.

I don't know how to link this, but if you go to www.drudgereport.com and then go to the link he has to his old headlines and then go toe July 13, 2004, he has a pretty complete article from My Way.
No doubt, it's scary stuff.

Funny to see people paniac about stuff before they bother to find out whats going on first Where were you last night?:'). It's human nature. If you were on say a plane or train you couldn't get off and people started passing out and c/o difficulty breathing you would probably get anxious too.
All, the scariest part of this thread is this linked article to the "band". It sounds ominously too close to what that actor saw before 911.

I agree with your hummmmmmmm. :)

True. BUT, for future reference how can it hurt to know facts? Never know when knowing facts could be helpful.

Southwest is noted for the lack of problems or accidents.>
By whom? What exactly is a "problem"? Southwest runs into problems every time they fly, just like everyone else.
Those of us in the airline industry know there are many variables, and everyone is subject those. As for accidents, Southwest has had them - and the one which is most interesting has to do with what airline observers have noted for quite some time: hot-dogging eventually will catch up with everyone. Southwest systematically breaks airborne speed limits. This is UNHEARD of at other airlines. You can always spot the Southwest airplane on the ground as well. It is the one going twice the speed of everyone else.
Southwest is a fine airline, but they have a reputation in the industry - and it isn't "known for not having problems" - rather, the common comment in the cockpit of airliners watching Southwest taxi past is, "In a hurry?"

I don't care what anybody says, there was some really good brainstorming on this thread. The way I look at it, we are the new "Civil Patrol." If we are jittery... well, so what. I have been concerned about a foodborne illness "attack" for years. Look at that link. Look at the onset and symptoms. Can you imagine that across the nation in restaurants, travel industry, institutions, etc. We need to be aware of our surroundings. And what to look for and what to do should we ever need to do something. God help us, I hope we never need this information. It would be silly and stupid not to "brainstorm" these things.

A pilot overshot the runway in California and went across a street. He was fired, as I recall. They've been involved in exactly ZERO fatal accidents since their inception.
As far as speed is concerned, I'm happy for that. Southwest gets me where I need to go, and makes sure I get there on time, even if we're late getting off the gate.
In addition, all their personnel are friendly, and solicitous of passenger considerations.
They are THE model airline, IMO, and I fly them exclusively, where possible.

Thanks for the summation.
It's pretty much what I thought.

Yeah, no one was panicking or jumping to conclusions. Just a lot of discussion . I don't know how I missed it but I did not see the article about the 14 musicians and probably wouldn't have if I had not been here. There is a thread up today about democrats are going to get us killed. I don't necessarily believe that but I think we need to be shouting from the roof tops that the PC crowd is going to though.
To: sinkspur
We prefer SW too but laugh about the Fly boys being heavy on the brakes. Maybe that's why lol

"...One started throwing up, and others sitting nearby" did so afterward in a "reactive response," said BWI spokeswoman Cheryl Stewart. An airline spokeswoman said the others may have suffered from "sympathy nausea..." This is why it's important to issue Barf Alerts.
To: CindyDawg
I have to honestly say, I did jump to the conclusion that there was something going on with this flight. So what. It turned out to be wrong. All the same, I learned alot reading through this entire thread. whew. :)
You are so right about the PC garbage. One of the things I really appreciate about FR is the challenge of freepers to check ourselves, and especially the "others", on the PC mantra.

If the aircraft is using Skydrol hydraulic fluid and developed a leak that exposed people, it could definitely get nasty.
To: exhaustedmomma
I don't think discussing the what if's is jumping to conclusions. We debated info as it came across. One media report was food related. Another fumes. These guys just need to know we are watching them. I'm afraid I would not have been so calm on that flight with the 14 Arabs and would have demanded to know what they were doing and drew out those sky marshals. (I'm not too PC :')
To: CindyDawg
I'm with you about the "muscian" flight. I kept thinking: Get up and check out the lavatory. I have no doubts I would have been back there checking that out. I am just so snoopy, I know I would have been asking questions. The lady crying in her husbands shoulder... I don't think I react that way. Guess it was a good thing I wasn't on that flight. AND, another little thing... I sure as blaze would have been NOISY after I got off the flippin' plane.

I don't think discussing the what if's is jumping to conclusions. Agreed. What I always find interesting about "breaking news" situations, is not that people believe the whole report, or none of the report, they instead choose to believe selective parts of the report over others. Of course, that's how conspiracy theories are born...

There may have been a tree hugging enviornmental whacko on board who hadn't bathed since woodstock.I know that guy...he sat next to me on a flight back from Montego Bay.

I was on a flight once that was de-iced at the gate (of course, this doesn't apply to this flight), and they must have left some ventilation duct open, the smell of the antifreeze used to de-ice the plane entered the cabin and many people started gagging. I am surprised that this (or worse) doesn't happen more often. I once worked nights at Stapleton International. One morning around 3:00 am, I was told to de-ice some jets. I had never been trained or even seen a de-icer truck before. I had no idea what I was doing and there was nobody there to tell me what to do. I had to get a baggage handler to drive the truck for me while I went up in the bucket. I made the pilots get out and tell me where to spray. I must have cringed for a good hour after each takeoff.
I remain amazed that they would let just anybody hose down a jet just before takeoff. That was just one of several stories and one reason why I hate to fly.
