NEWS FLASH: Ditka storms out of meeting

Wednesday, July 14, 2004

By The Leader-Chicago Bureau CHICAGO -- This morning in downtown Chicago, Mike Ditka left a secret meeting with IL GOP decision makers, angered about the media being tipped off.

Ditka was to meet with members of the IL GOP State Central Committee and to speak via conference call with national level Republicans.

As word of the meeting leaked out to the press, Ditka reportedly was angered when met by reporters, exited the meeting promptly and hopped into his black Escalade, and left, obviously upset.

Matt Drudge reported this morning that an announcement would be made at 9:30 am.

No word as to the ensuing discussion among state central committee members left at the meeting, which is still going on.

Ditka's willingness to take on the candidacy may be in doubt now.

Developing story . . .

If the guy can't handle a stupid leak, then he probably can't handle being a politician.

Shhhhhhhhhhhh...those of us who questioned his fitness and qualifications have been attacked. It seems all that matters is that he can win.

Hey Phikapmom.... what's up? Why do we think Ditka would be a good senator? You and I wouldn't even let him be the head coach at Oklahoma.

This is the part that Ditka won't get. When you run representing a political party, you're not your own man. You agree that you're not your own man. That you are the represenative of a political party. If he wants to overshaddow the dem candidate, or to run as his own man... he has every right to run as an independent.

At least that's what I think.

I just want to know if Ditka is a conservative or not? I'd like to know what his values are. Moral, fiscal, and ethical values. Or do we just elect another RINO just so we can then complain when they won't support the president?

It amazes me that there are nominal 'conservatives' -- plenty on this site -- who will fuss and fume about someone like Jim Jeffords, but they don't seem to see any connection to their own eagerness to blindly support anybody with an 'R' next to his name. Where do they think Jeffords, McCain, etc., come from?

With emotional control such as that it is best he not try to run for public office.

With emotional control like that we'd all be better off because then congressmen couldn't put aside differences in order to come up with bills that screw everyone over.

There are two, three, ten threads on FR right now, and most of them explain over and over again that Ditka is pro-life, calls himself an ultra-conservative. So far he's come out as conservative on everthing but guns.

Thanks for that info. I hadn't heard anything concrete.

I don't know if the Illinois Leader leans left

Was this the paper that FOILED the first candidates visitation rights papers when both parents wanted them keep confidential? Some paper went on an anti-GOP candidate fishing trip.

No, it means we want a candidate who is conservative but doesn't expect to be treated with kid gloves and to be immune to criticism.

That and a guy who wouldn't have traded an entire draft's worth of picks for Ricky Williams.

Thank you for the information. However, I still don't trust this subjective interpretation. No quotes. No comments from people inside the meeting.

Also, it seems to me that Ditka ALWAYS looks like he is storming out of (or into) places. And he pretty much always looks angry, which suits my mood to a tee.

In politics, if two people know something, it is NOT a secret.

That is the simple fact.

Right.

I guess Mikey learned something today. Politics 101

While we might not know much about Ditka and he may well be explosive, but we do know:
*He would make a far better senator than Kennedy or Osama or a bunch of others, some whose behavior borders on treason.
*He isn't an ambulance chaser.
*The Republicans in Illinois don't have much of a choice.
*He would make it an interesting contest and if he wins at least he would add a little color to politics.

Why not its only the Senate? They are all a bunch of emotionally immature jerks who think they all deserve to be President. Many of them think they are President. Seems like Ditka would fit right in.
