NEWS FLASH: Ditka storms out of meeting
Wednesday, July 14, 2004
By The Leader-Chicago Bureau CHICAGO -- This morning in downtown Chicago, Mike Ditka left a secret meeting with IL GOP decision makers, angered about the media being tipped off.
Ditka was to meet with members of the IL GOP State Central Committee and to speak via conference call with national level Republicans.
As word of the meeting leaked out to the press, Ditka reportedly was angered when met by reporters, exited the meeting promptly and hopped into his black Escalade, and left, obviously upset.
Matt Drudge reported this morning that an announcement would be made at 9:30 am.
No word as to the ensuing discussion among state central committee members left at the meeting, which is still going on.
Ditka's willingness to take on the candidacy may be in doubt now.
Developing story . . .
_________
I say give him a couple days. We'll get a surprise announcement.
Why? What is he going to do, punch you? It's a different world out there, different rules. If he can't figure that out for himself than he has no business running for an elected office. (Or managing a McDonald's for that matter...)
and any sensible person knew up front that this was the case.
Mike, this is why it is called "public office".
Yup. I posted about 2 hours ago that since he was ahead in the polls, all he had to do was keep his mouth shut. So much for that.
I doubt the Illinois RINO establishment really wants Ditka. They don't own or control him... that's the reason why they wouldn't support Fitzgerald for another term.
Interestingly, this is the same reason the Democrat leadership wouldn't support Glenn Poshard in 1998. They were much happier to support a corrupt RINO like George Ryan, who'd "play ball" with them.
Illinois is a sickeningly corrupt state, and has been for quite some time.
If he is so petty that he can't take that, he surely can't take the ugliness of politics.
we need Ditka.... and ILGOP is a stinkin' pile of ----
Lesson one: The media hates Republicans unless you are a wacky liberal republican who often publicly diagrees with your party (See McLame).
What would he say to Leaky on the floor of the Senate?
I say it's up to Ditka to call in the press when he's good and ready. Hope he does what BadEye suggests and has a surprise announcement, just to show the press where he stands with them. (Answer: at a time and place of his choosing.) It's gotta feel good to rub the press' nose in it once in awhile.
You should have seen the bitching on another thread when I suggested that this celebrity nomination might not be such a good idea.
also.......the DRUDGE story showed up on the internet only an hour or so ago - when did this story get posted at the LEADER? ...... moments ago, or much earlier?
agree....hasn't he had more than one heart attack due to his highly emotional level? Best to put a compassionate conservative in that slot than a "hell raising" former football coach....
He's not going to win unless he get's Buddy Ryan to handle the defense.
If he's that overly sensitive, he doesn't need to be considering politics.
Maybe he could coach peewee football or something.
I don't know. I would like to see him handle some CNN pukes, or a EuroPeon politician. That would surely liven up the news, and I think the American public would like it!
It wasn't BadEye; it was RockinRight.
