Will Compasses Point South?

The collapse of the Earth's magnetic field, which both guards the planet and guides many of its creatures, appears to have started in earnest about 150 years ago. The field's strength has waned 10 to 15 percent, and the deterioration has accelerated of late, increasing debate over whether it portends a reversal of the lines of magnetic force that normally envelop the Earth.
During a reversal, the main field weakens, almost vanishes, then reappears with opposite polarity. Afterward, compass needles that normally point north would point south, and during the thousands of years of transition, much in the heavens and Earth would go askew.
A reversal could knock out power grids, hurt astronauts and satellites, widen atmospheric ozone holes, send polar auroras flashing to the equator and confuse birds, fish and migratory animals that rely on the steadiness of the magnetic field as a navigation aid. But experts said the repercussions would fall short of catastrophic, despite a few proclamations of doom and sketchy evidence of past links between field reversals and species extinctions.

FINGERPRINTS OF THE GODS by Graham Hancock
Start here to get into antediluvial (before the Flood) history. Hancock goes around the world and documents ancient ruins that point to a lost race of technologically advanced people. In addition to the riddles of Egypt, Hancock also links Teotihuacan, maps of the Ancient Sea-Kings, Peru, Bolivia, and other sites together in a vast explanation of the ancient world. Methodic explanations of megalithic anomalies that ring the globe and still defy modern science. Forget Stonehenge, who built Ba'albek, with stones weighing 400 tons? Even modern cranes can't lift them. From ancient maps of an iceless Antarctica (at least 10,000 years ago), to the astronomical alignment of the Giza complex, the fingerprints can't be denied..

Will compasses point South?
No, they will always point North. Wherever that North is. Let's make it clearer. Compasses will point to the NORTH Magnetic Pole (as defined by modern science) where ever that pole may be geographically (as defined by modern cartography), even if it is now located in the Southern (cartographically) Hemisphere.

Ancient maps exist (validated by the U. S. Airforce [SAC] Technical Section, Wendover Airforce Base) showing Antartica in relatively ICE FREE state...which did not come to an end until 6,000 B.C.!! Uh, Lael, your original post said "11th Century BC" ...which is in the area of recorded history...and I think you actually meant 11 Millenia BC... because that is more in line with the melting of the icecaps from the last ice age and the various theories about actual slippage of the Earth's crust.

I hope this happens soon. My father always told me that I'd be a millionaire the day compasses pointed South.

Thanks for the correction...the 11th Millennia B.C. is in the Age of LEO...hence the Leonene features of the Sphinx [sp?]...all except the head!
All things considered...the coming POLE FLIP may have some interesting Consequences...

Wendover [SAC] base, was on the Nevada-Utah border I-80.
It is now decommisioned and turned over to Wendover (city) as a public airport - renamed Decker Field.

I learned to fly in 1954, and "magnetic variation", the difference between magnetic north, where the compass needle points, and true north, direction to north pole, was hammered into my head. Back then, in north Louisiana it was 6 degrees east. My most recent USGS map shows 3.5 degrees east for 1995, so it's probably down around 3 degrees now. The compass variation is zero somewhere in the mid-eastern part of the USA and becomes westerly toward the Atlantic coast, with local anomalies due to mountains, ore deposits, etc. So there is definitely a slow, but easily measurable, change.

True.
Magnetic variation (now) is zero at Atlanta (east coast, due south of the current mag pole location), and as much as 15 degrees towards Vancouver and the Pacific NW.
Go further east and north towards England/Scotland/Iceland and it gets very large again. But in the other direction.
