BEIJING (AP) - A Muslim has been executed on charges of seeking independence for China's Muslim-majority northwestern region of Xinjiang and making explosives, a court official said Tuesday.
Kuerban Tudaji, an ethnic Uighur, was sentenced to death June 30 and later executed, said Fu Rongqing, a spokesman for the Supreme People's Court in Xinjiang.
Fu said he wasn't sure of the date the execution was carried out.
Death sentences in China typically are carried out shortly after the last appeal fails.
Most executions are by gunshot to the head or neck, while some courts use lethal injection.
Fu said Kuerban Tudaji was convicted of seeking independence for Xinjiang - or trying to "split China,'' in legal terms - and for making and transporting explosives and ammunition.
The human rights group Amnesty International issued a statement saying it "strongly condemned'' the execution and expressing concern that Kuerban Tudaji didn't receive a fair trial.
China's communist government claims Uighur separatists are fighting to turn Xinjiang into an independent theocratic state and are part of an international Islamic terrorist network.
But foreign experts are skeptical of claims of an organized campaign.
Opponents of Beijing's rule over Xinjiang say the government is using terrorism as an excuse to tighten control over a region that is divided from the rest of China by language, ethnicity and religion.
Chinese leaders tolerate no challenges to Communist Party rule, but the extent of the crackdown in Xinjiang is unknown because of controls on information from the area.
Hmmmm.... bullets are cheaper... and quicker... and should be used elsewhere in the world, for these "muslim separatists"!
Bad guys versus worse guys.
When it comes to crushing Islamofascism, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Yep. Betcha the beheadings would stop.
And who said Real Politik is not fun.
Life goes on and on and on and on
If the Taiwanese and Tibetans deserve to be free of Chinese rule, so do the Uyghurs. And you don't free yourself from the Chinese Communists by asking nicely; June 4, 1989 should have taught us that.
It is also interesting how many on F.R. feel, as I do, that we have the right to take action against anyone illegally violating our borders, but apparently feel that the Uyghurs must let the Chinese continue to run rampant over their land and erase their civilization completely.
I hate terrorists, but I would never let my immediate concern over terrorism overshadow my knowledge that in the long-term, China presents the greatest threat to U.S. interests and world peace. Lending moral support to China's defense of her present empire is as short-sighted as getting stranded in a blizzard and lighting your parka on fire to stay warm.
The problem is, when Mohammedans create a state, the state then becomes a tool of promoting Jihad all around the world.
A Mohammedan state, by default, is a terrorist state.
I don't believe the Tibetans have a history of exporting suicide bombers and other wackos all over the world.
True for communism, fascism, and even imperialism promoting their way of life. Even America has guilty hands when it comes to promoting them selfs at the expense of others, I have heard many on this site state that since Americas need is greater than another country when it comes to a resource and that America would make better use of it then that resource should be seized.
My country Britian built an empire on this believe.
I have seen very little of that sentiment.
America could have been/be the greatest colonial power this world has ever known, and it has chosen not to be.
We could have colonized all of Western Europe (and by default, all their possessions) and the Pacific Rim after WWII but we chose not to.
Good riddance!
We were applauding the execution of a mohammedan terrorist. I have no use for China, and I know we will in all probability be fighting them within ten years. But I welcome killing mohammedan terrorists, no matter who pulls the trigger.
How do you know he's a terrorist, because China says so? I suppose they would know all about terrorism as evidenced by their Tiennemen performance.
So if the Uighurs don't want to be under the yoke of Communist China they're terrorists because they're Muslim but the non-muslims who want independence are freedom fighters?
Talk about double standards...
"Hmmmm.... bullets are cheaper... and quicker... and should be used elsewhere in the world, for these "muslim separatists""
Of course it's cheaper. In China, the family is made to pay for the cost of the bullet that is used in executing the 'guilty' party.
Well said!
Also, the Xinjiang province has a bit more historical background than Tibet or Taiwan. At least in regards to belonging to China.
Taiwan was ceded to Japan in the treaty of 1898 while Tibet was taken forcefully by the Communists in 1950. Xijinang was already a part of China and had been during previous dynasties.
Talking sense to these idiots is tantamount to pissing in the wind.
Hateful ignorants here and in the middle east deserve each other.. The rest of us are a sort of collateral damage..
I wouldn't piss on these fools if they were on fire.
The problem was that outside America and Europe there was not much difference between us (The West) and them (The communists) in how we manipulated local grievances such as religion, territorial claims for our own purposes, over threw governments because they were deemed unfriendly or too neutral. The saddest yet funniest aspect was where ever the Soviets or we overthrew a state because it was deemed unfriendly or two neutral after years of civil war there would be a government even less friendly to us or the Soviets.
I used to believe in the ends justify the means, but have changed not from becoming a man of principles but more of a case of that the using extreme means usually end up dictating an end we spent so much resources trying to avoid
