The National Lawyers Guild, founded in 1937, is an association of lawyers, law students, legal workers and jailhouse lawyers dedicated to the proposition that human rights are more important than property rights.
The Mass Defense Committee of the NLG-NYC Chapter, which has been providing legal observers and lawyers for activists since 1968, is proud to offer its depth of experience and knowledge to activists organizing events surrounding the Republican National Convention this summer in New York City. We can be contacted at:

The Committee is coordinating its efforts to provide RNC Mass Defense legal support with the Peoples Law Collective, the Association of Legal Aid Attorneys, the Center for Constitutional Rights, and the New York Civil Liberties Union.

We are actively recruiting lawyers to provide pro-bono (free) legal representation. Ideally, we will find enough pro-bono lawyers to represent everyone who may be arrested at protests during the Convention. However, given the possibility of unprecedented numbers of arrests, we cannot guarantee we will be able to recruit enough lawyers to volunteer. That is why the Guild is also recruiting lawyers who would be willing to provide legal representation at low bono (substantially reduced) rates. In light of this, activists may want to make some contingency legal defense fundraising plans.
If you are a lawyer interested in helping out, please download our Attorney Questionnaire (PDF format), and mail or fax it to:

If you are a lawyer and are interested in helping, but you do not have criminal defense experience, we will be offering CLE trainings this summer. Fill out and send us the our Attorney Questionnaire (PDF format) and watch our Calendar for upcoming trainings.

I'll do what I can, but if they make it impossible for me to leave lower Manhattan, I'm not going to get all stressed out over it -- and I'm not walking miles to get to the Garden or elsewhere in midtown. I'll just do what I did during the big blackout last summer -- forget my plans and camp out on the outdoor deck, watching everyone walk across the Brooklyn Bridge.
"the classic scene was the CT sen Ribakoff..at the speaker's dias in prime time..accusing the Chicago PD of "gestapo" tactics..then Mayor Daley, in the audience..giving Ribikoff the finger..believe me..HOward Stern had NOTHING on these guys"..
I remember watching this with my Dad, and the both of us howling like dogs! It was one of those joyous times that humor burns itself into ones memory! Those were the days! I was young, but I remember it like it happened yesterday.

Thanks,he works hard at what is often a thankless job.
much of this information is listed on the democratic underground website. talking about evil....
Thanks for your blessings. My son was in the Marines also.
"Another thing covered on the Fox&Friends segment was the disruptors are to throw marbles on the ground so the horses the police officers ride would have a hard time chasing down the disruptors".
There are non-leathal weapons in the hands of the NYPD, that can stop a running perp. Discovery Science Channel just had a special on some of them in Police use today. I think that these anarchists may be shocked by what they will face.
It goes without saying, that if anyone's life is endangered by these idiots, lethal force should be authorized as a response.
It seems that something was written into the Patriot Act regarding public safety, and domestic threats?

They're National "Socialists".
MoveOn.org is behind the Anarchists, Thereza is behind the Lawyers Guild - sound like criminal to me, and should be made known to everybody. Let's ask Fox to take this story on, its our safety, and the Dems sleeziness
I'm in the Financial District, near the WTC site, so that would be a good 3-4 mile walk.
And if things are so bad that I'd have to walk to get there, I'd prefer to stay home and not get beaten and/or tear-gassed. I'm a girl, and a somewhat small one at that, so I will NOT be trying to mix it up with the anarchists nor do I want to confront them.
So, from which America-hating (or, is that Amerikkka-hating) anarchist group are you?
My late grandfather was a NYC cop, so I always have a special place in my heart for the NYPD. I've always been fans of them -- even before 9/11. Please thank him for me! :)
You signed on to FR just to say THAT?
"human rights are more important than property rights" ?How can you have human rights without property right? Property can be as much as a tooth-pick or a kingdom. So what are they trying to say?
Nice to hear that your grandfather was with the NYPD.
My doctor here in Massachusetts had a father with the NYPD.He talks more about the department when I visit than he does about my health.
They were talking about this on "Fox & Friends" this morning.
how do you think you might look with body armor? maybe we could get you "designer body armor" - maybe something from Vera Wang?
Twisted doesn't have an "r" in it. ;)
There's no such thing as a mainstream dem anymore.
