HOMELAND INSECURITY

Backup electrical systems failed to kick in

A mysterious power failure at Logan Airport that delayed dozens of flights for more than five hours has still not been explained – six days later.

Airport officials insist airline security was not compromised during the blackout Monday at Logan International's Terminal E, but backup electrical systems failed to kick in as they are programmed under such circumstances.

Although the Catskills are not the Rockies, they still provide a large area to hide things that go boom within close proximity to NYC. There are caves and caverns, old mills, underground storage facilities, abandoned camps and mines, etc. I have found roads and streams and even small villages (meaning a handful of buildings clustered together in the middle of nowhere) that don't even appear on local maps.

BTW, what makes the Catskill Mountains so impressive is that you can go from sea level to over 4000 ft. in a few minutes drive. In other words, when you look at the Catskills from sea level, they look almost as impressive as the Rockies viewed from Denver at 5200 ft.

I was in Seattle recently, staying with friends who work for a government agency that tracks terrorists. They follow known terror suspects each day as part of their job duties. (I am purposely remaining vague for obvious reasons)
As a daily lurker on this site, we discussed whether the alphabet soup agencies ever lurked the TM or other web sites to garner additional information. Their response was no, we know much more than you could ever imagine already. I was saddened to hear this, as I believe the TM is doing a great job for those of us who do not have access to the information government agencies know.
Needless to say, there is great concern over the ports and cross-border smuggling in of WMD I was told that if one of their pagers went off, I should leave the City. The good news is that there were no problems during the visit. Since being back home, my friends have been unreachable due to their jobs.
I say, keep up the good work to all on the TM!

Are the ingredients in place for a dirty bomb at the Fleet Center in Boston?

I'm not sure about the order of things. I remember around December 2003 there was talk that a video would be released to coincide with the next attack. Some people took that to mean the video would appear first, others thought the attack would take place first.

Funny you mention that, I am planning on doing my PhD on a terrorism related topic. I figure the underlining will come in handy when I get to that point.

You're very welcome. I think I will try to do the same sort of thing with a few other books I have read recently.

It is a good think you resized and posted it again. That site exceeded bandwidth and the graphics aren't showing anymore.

At least we have yours.

lol!

I think it's mostly spelled right. I typed it all out in Word then formatted it up with some html. I may have missed a few things. I started filling in quotes around 12:30am and did not finish until around 3. My eyes were giving out at the point. :)

My primary thought was that it would be a train bomb or airplane attack as we were at a Mariner's game and you can see a major train track near the stadium as well as constant flights going past the stadium as we discussed threats. But as I questioned them continuously throughout the trip to find out potential targets; at Pike Street, downtown, on the Space Needle, at museums, at the airport, at the malls, and even near a nuclear power plant, I had to conclude that nuclear weapons via shipping containers were the greatest threat. Please understand that they would never reveal answers but only discredit suggestions that they felt did not coincide with what they knew. I do think that Israeli style homicide bombings were feared also ... but I do not want to give a terrorist anymore to chew on than what I have already wrote.
Needless to say, my friends were probably glad to send me off after the 1000 questions.

I want to know if EOM is also Amer El-Maati????????

His last 3 day threat of a nuclear strike is #228 at Davey and Quix's thread in our post #617.

His nuclear threat is signed with the name Amer El-Maati.

That's interesting, I did not realize he had signed with that name. His was one of the four names mentioned in Osama's Revenge regarding nuclear expertise. Then again, EOM is EOM. We'll see... interesting though.

They would be likely be useless, unless (as speculated) UBL has acquired people with knowledge on upkeep.

They've also mobilized 150,000 troops to the NK border area, which is the same general area in which 150,000 Ivans are conducting an exercise.

About what I expected.

However, we do have some from Homeland security who are at least occasionally reviewing what we do here. And certainly they can be FREEPMAILED.

And some have been lauded as being particularly helpful by some agencies.

But, yeah, we are not professionals.

HOWEVER, WE PROBABLY HAVE A GREATER DIVERSITY AND GREATER . . . out-of-the-box brainstorming critical mass than perhaps any agency. That has a certain value that COULD BE priceless in some contexts and contingencies.

imho.

Thanks for your kind post.

a qucik FWIW/ man on the scene report.

Just had a couple of military Hueys (? single rotor, turbine exhaust exiting the top directly beneath the rotor, 6-8 passenger) fly over the house here in East Lansing, Michigan.

never seen that before, though I know there is an army national guard station about 3 hours north of here in Grayling Mi, and a couple of Airforce Guard bases about as far away to the north east. I guess they could be on a training mission from grayling, but I've never heard of them running that stuff this far south. seems like a long haul for that type of chopper, easily 175 miles away.

There is a major north south freeway that runs right along here, about 2 miles away, state route 127, and they were headed south...

I tried several different marking methods--colors, symbols, margin lines etc.

In the end, the most functional thing was:

WHATEVER HAD THE MOST INK next to it!

I DID FIND IT VERY USEFUL TO RUN THE LINE FROM THE MARKED PART DOWN THE EDGES OF THE BOOK SO THAT I COULD GO FROM A CLOSED BOOK TO THE PARAGRAPHS OR SENTENCES WITH THE MOST INK VERY QUICKLY AS THOUGH THE BOOK WAS THUMB INDEXED. *THAT* saved tons of time. The most important parts I used 3-5 lines on the edges of the book. And, I used different colors every so many pages just to make such easier to decipher.

The same could be useful to help us on this thread with reference books we might have at hand.

I'm guessing you are talking about China's troops?

My son was in Korea, in intel in the late 90s.
