A mysterious power failure at Logan Airport that delayed dozens of flights for more than five hours has still not been explained – six days later.

Airport officials insist airline security was not compromised during the blackout Monday at Logan International's Terminal E, but backup electrical systems failed to kick in as they are programmed under such circumstances.

On the local front we have a third fire started near Lake Elsinore this evening.

The fire nearest us looks as though it's growing. The western sky is red and smoke is floating towards us again. If the Verbenia fire goes into the high timber then the are around Idylwild will be in big trouble because of the bark beatle infestation.

My hunch on the "globalislamicmedia" site (from what I've read) is that it's pure horsepucky.

The site operator (going by Algernan - The Voice) appears to be extremely upset about American foreign policy - and apparently has the VERY misguided view that by spouting off about it, and the "dire consequences" that the PEOPLE of the US will suffer due to US GOVERNMENT policy - will somehow get the troops out of Iraq. That, and will bring the entire world together to sing Kumbaya.

I can see the goal. The methods are suspect and a bit laughable (I esp. liked the "3 nukes will make 1/3 of the US uninhabitable". That alone killed ANY credibility this person has IMHO).

I'm in Coral Gables and this morning we awoke to a choking smoky haze. It is as bad as I have ever seen it in this town and I was born and raised here! My poor wife is allergic to smoke. Every year, the Everglades goes up in flames. It's part of the natural order of things. This was caused by multiple lightning strikes. I saw a few of them. Florida has the most lightning strikes of any state in the union. In fact you're eleven times more likely to die by lightning strike here than anyplace else. No mystery.

If we see this happen in a second city (eg: NYC, LA, etc), it is time to get outta dodge and head to your nearest tropical island - ASAP.

HUMOR RELIEF:

My best man at my wedding married his college sweet-heart. She was the daughter of a long time MD father and RN mother. Both parents were in the US NAVY in WWII. For a long period, the parents were in distant duty stations from one another. I think the mother was in San Diego and the father was in Hawaii or some such.

The father had died before the wedding of my best man to his daughter. A decade or so after their wedding, the mother died. They were going through the effects from the wife's parents' lives and came across several shoe boxes of love letters from the Navy years.

The letters were sweet and very romantic--a fascinating read. But all the letters had a bit of mystery in the closing from both the father to the mother and vice versa. Along with the usual "Love" and "XXX" was the persistent notation: "I have big feet for you."

This was a great and increasing puzzle to both M and Deb with each shoebox of letters they read through.

Finally, as fate would have it, I think it was in the bottom of the last box, was a post card of the big bronze horse in Balboa Park in San Diego. And the notation on the card was "BIG FEET!"

Of course, the feet on the huge horse were not the only things that were big.
