The wife of vice presidential hopeful John Edwards is defending Whoopi Goldberg after the potty-mouthed comedienne attacked President Bush with an X-rated monologue at Thursday night's Kerry-Edwards fundraiser in New York.
Rejecting calls for her husband's campaign to apologize for Goldberg's outburst, Mrs. Edwards said Friday that the anti-Bush tirade was justified.
"A lot of people are going to be angry - there's a lot to be angry about," she told reporters at a fundraising breakfast on Manhattan's West side. "It's a free country and people are going to express that anger."

After sitting through the vulgar performance, Sen. Edwards told the crowd, "This campaign will be a celebration of real American values." "Women make both the manners and the morals of a people. Neither rises higher than the gauge which women set in a community...Where a woman has bad manners, it always has in it an element of vulgarity which is more painful than it could be in a man. The result will be a society hopelessly vulgarized...with no end but to sink in an ever deeper abyss of vulgarity." -- Thomas Nelson Page, 1911

To #20 Now, THAT was funny. Sad to say, if, by any chance this lovely couple should win, it would show how far down the slippery slope our beloved America has come.
This is not the country many of us recognize from years
past.

Some women are swayed by power. Then there's the matter of self-respect.

"Some call it her bluntness; whether Elizabeth Edwards is making jokes about her husbands youthful good looks or presenting policy positions, she doesnt mince her words. She regards herself as a full partner both in her marriage and in the campaign.
Elizabeth had always used Anania as her last name, but in 1996 she took the name Edwards, not for political reasons but to honor the memory of their son. I took my sons name, she said briskly. I didnt take my husbands name."
Agree, keep an eye on her. (from Spring Ms.)

There are some high falutin' words to describe the demoncats, and I think part of their insanity revolves around the idea that Bush is going to repeal the Sixties somehow. The rats remind me of the French; they've invented an alternate history to explain away their shame. The only way to boycott them is to vote them out of office and PRAY that the Republicans defund their crazy projects, starting with NPR. Sorry for the bluntness, but the rats are unspeakable.

Lurch, the Breck girl and Nurse Ratchett all look as if their on psychotropic drugs. Am I off base here? I'm quite serious.

I'm impressed that pretty-boy Edwards stayed with her. He surely could find far higher quality honeys than Clinton rolled around in. Good for him.
(Yes, it may very well be for political calculation purposes only, with the word "open" somewhere in the deal, but most fabulously wealthy handsome power-loving lawyers wouldn't do it, even so. Here's to hoping, and giving the benefit of the doubt, anyway.)

After what the Borg did to her home planet, you'd think Whoopi would understand the need for preemptive action against those who would destroy you.

You know, I was wondering when the psychotic eyes of not only Nurse Ratchet, but Hitlery and the rest of the gimmiecrats were discussed in terms of medication. Thanks.

Something tells me that there is a woman or women lurking somewhere in John Edwards' life. He is sickening and I can't stand him being from my beloved NC. However, he is a good looking man with a hideous cow for a wife. Betcha there are some babes somewhere in Senator Edwards's life that we may never hear about.

I sure hope the RNC is getting some whopper commercials ready from these folks. I think all we need to do is half screens. This one could show Whoopie with bleep bleep bleep and then show Liz defending it. I would also make one with Edwards "channeling" and Kerry "not having time for defense reports". But will the RNC do anything of the sort?

Make sure you get in touch with Dick Cheney so he can include a couple of zingers in his upcoming debates. You know - things like 'yeh we have a deficit, but your wife is a lard ass', followed by a F' yourself.Excuse me, but your mischaracterizations of VP Cheney are beyond the pale.
First, the man does not engage in public personal attacks. Second, Leahy publicly impuned Cheney from the hallowed halls of the Senate and Cheney told him off privately when Leahy had the temerity to approach him with a hypocritical hail fellow well met attitude. Cheney was right in his attitude and comportment, Leahy in the wrong. Cheney is a man and a gentleman, but I see your sense of discernment and taste and appropriateness is sorely lacking. Too bad for you.

Hi Howlin. I don't post much but do check the forum daily. Your posts are always a welcome read.
Did you find out what the specifics of the draft policy was at that time? ...just curious.
