After failing to persuade her to run for president in 2004, Bill Clinton desperately tried to convince his wife Hillary to team up with John Kerry as his running mate, Clinton biographer Christopher Andersen said Thursday.

"Bill Clinton told his wife, this is your best chance," he told CBS's "Early Show," confirming NewsMax.com's report on Tuesday. "As the poll numbers improved for John Kerry, Bill Clinton tried to convince his wife to go for it,” said Andersen, whose new book "American Evita" details the Clintons plans to return to the White House.

"Publicly, [Bill] said she’d make a wonderful addition to the ticket,” he added. But the former first lady rejected his arguments.

Now that Kerry has picked John Edwards, the Clintons' support for the ticket will be perfunctory at best. "There’s a need on the part of the Clintons to look as if they back this ticket, there’s no way they can really want John Kerry to win" the author explained, since that would keep Hillary out of the running till 2012.

Some saw Mrs. Clinton's rhetoric last week as a subtle attempt to torpedo Kerry's White House chances.

While reiterating her long-held position that Democrats should roll back the Bush tax cuts, she told a San Francisco crowd that under a Kerry administration, "We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good." The communist-sounding phraseology set off political smoke alarms, raising questions about why the savvy senator would commit such a blooper.

"Sounds like he just wants her out of the house to me."

Why would he want that? Its not like they live together. This is the prime example of a business relationship, not a marriage as most of us know it.

The title of that book fits my perception exactly. After listening to the CD of the show "Evita", I was struck with the similarities between Hitlery and Evita Peron. Conniving, manipulating and ruthlessly selfish.

Hitlery is a better Strategist than Bill.
She knows that she and Bill couldn't guarantee that Kerry/Clinton would win, but they could guarantee that Kerry/Anyone Else would lose, leaving 2008 as an open race.

The wide-load may be doing a lot of this before the election in order to sink sKerry.

All of these remarks should be archived in one place and brought up when and if she decides to run in 2008.

The common good in Hillary's mind is multimillion dollar vacations to Egypt, India and China, all at taxpayers'expense.

I don't think Hillary is as savvy as people think. I think she is usually on her guard, and at SF she let her guard down and spoke from the heart. And, her true character was revealed.

If she were as savvy as people claim, she would face the media more often. Remember how much she was shielded from the media during her Senate campaign?
