If legal or illegal immigrants came here and worked as journalists or college professors at half the pay that American journalists or college professors receive, the intelligentsia would probably have no trouble seeing the fallacy in what they are saying.

Has Dr. Sowell been inside a college of engineering lately? Foreign professors and teaching assistants form the bulk of the technical faculty at many public universities these days.

1. Start enacting - AND ENFORCING - some serious disincentives for employers of illegals. Agriculture especially. (I'm a farmer, BTW.)

2. Make English the national language - no interpreters for driver's licenses, ballots, or any other official government activity. Ban any and all bilingual activities, require English be spoken in public. If you can't speak the language, learn it now or get the _____ out.

3. Remind all immigrants, whether illegal or legal, that they came here because their original nation evidently sucked. Therefore, why try to make America suck like their old nation? Then they will have gained nothing by immigrating. If their reason for immigration was to bring this nation down, either deport or execute.

From the way many discussions of immigration are conducted, you might never dream that we are talking about the permanent alteration of the American people and the American culture.
