Fayette County elects first female black circuit judge

The Associated Press

LEXINGTON - Pamela Goodwine was elected Tuesday as Fayette County's first female black circuit judge.

Goodwine, who was appointed district judge in 1999, drew more than 56 percent of the votes to beat former state Sen. Tim Philpot.

Goodwine, 43, said that she would be happy to retire as a circuit judge, but also could imagine running for a seat on the Court of Appeals or state Supreme Court one day. "I have my eyes set on the stars," Goodwine said.

Philpot, 52, had said that his long career gave him the maturity to be a good judge. He has been a trial lawyer and a legislator.

"I don't look at it as losing an election, I look at it as reconnecting with hundreds of friends over the last few months," he said.

On the campaign trail, Goodwine regularly recounted a life story that included a remarkable rise from an inner city neighborhood in Youngstown, Ohio. She was given up for adoption at birth. She won a college scholarship but gave it up to be with her adoptive father, who was dying of lung cancer.

Goodwine worked as a court reporter and legal secretary, and eventually graduated from law school. Before becoming a judge, she worked with one of the state's largest law firms, Wyatt, Tarrant and Combs.

This is the reason for concealed carry folks. We have our share of liberal let em out judges in West Virginia too.

Get some training, a suitable sidearm and permit to carry. For home, get a shotgun and a dedicated home defense handgun. Back that up with a good flashlight, such as a SUREFIRE so you don't have an accidental shooting, get some training and some good locks. You will then have the upper hand on home invaders.

As Fayette District Court Judge, Goodwine hears eases involving misdemeanor and juvenile crimes, domestic violence and child support complaints, probate matters and small claims lawsuits.

I want to be a role model for the youth of my community. I want to let them know they, too, can achieve their dreams, if they first believe in God and then in themselves, Goodwine says.

"She says as a judge she tries to be compassionate to both sides."

She misses the point. This isn't a divorce, it's criminal court.

O. J. replayed - but this time from the bench and not the jury. What a miscarriage of the legal system.

We know about Judge Pamela but is Hawkins of the minority persuasion? If so, my bet is that Hawkins is a good looking brother with a nice smile and and easy way (when he isn't terroriszing other folks) and that Judge Pamela is a REAL oinker.

Keep us posted on this. It will be interesting to see if Hawkins shows up before or after his next violent crime and whether the Judge ever says/does anything that recognizes what a useless person she is and what a terrible judge she would have made.

Oh, give ol' Teddy a break. After all, he's had to put up with that name....

And besides, the rest of his time was spent working for DNC/MOOREON.ORG/SOROS registering voters and getting confidential information from them....everyone deserves a second chance, right?

The woman judge is an idiot and a moron, regardless of her color. She should be recalled, at a minimum and charged with a crime.

Reason #217 why I carry concealed (CCW) here in Penna, since '90, is stupid judges who let criminal loose, when they should be executed and society protected.
