Deposed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein is "very likely" to be hanged if convicted on charges of war crimes and genocide, Britain's former special envoy to Iraq said.
Sir Jeremy Greenstock said the Iraqi authorities would reinstate capital punishment as the ultimate sanction in their criminal code. The punishment was suspended during the coalition's rule of the country.
Saddam faced a range of charges including the gassing of Iraqi Kurds and the 1990 invasion of Kuwait when he made a preliminary appearance before a court in Baghdad last week.
Interviewed on BBC 1's Breakfast with Frost, Sir Jeremy said: "If he (Saddam) is found guilty, I think it is very likely that he would be executed.
"The Iraqis will change the law from the occupation period. Obviously the British are against that in principle. But this is now an Iraqi trial.
"The important thing I think, internationally and indeed for Iraqis, is that this trial should be a fair one, under recognised and acceptable rules of procedure."
The Judge should have stuck a pair of pink panties in his mouth! I am sure Iraq is doing their best to follow in the steps of becoming a democracy. It is a difficult task. Hopefully, next June 28th they will be celebrating their first Independence Day....with Saddam sweating in Hell with the 72 Virgins and no viagra or steriods.
Just for a good belly laugh during these early, trying times in Iraq try this "Day in Court" www.bixmixup.com/rockpapersaddam/
Happy Birthday America!
He's nothing but a low-down, double-dealing, backstabbing, larcenous perverted worm! Hanging's too good for him. Burning's too good for him! He should be torn into little bitsy pieces and buried alive!
oops the web site is www.bigmixup.com/rockpapersaddam/
You sure you live in Santa Cruz County? You sound to me more like one of us rednecks. ;)
How is he going to be Kerry's running mate if they go and do that ?
They still have Osama and Hillary to fall back on I suppose.
Heheh. Been around here since the University came in. (1967) I've seen it change from a fishing village/retirement community into a liberal cesspool during those years. Amazing. But the cesspool is starting to evaporate, little be little.
Possibly attributable to Phantly Roy Bean, Justice of the Peace, Pecos County, Texas, USA, circa 1896
If Iraq does get democracy and a fair court system, watch how the left will hate and condemn Iraq like they hate and condemn Israel. Anything that happens in Iraq is likely to be less than perfect if for no other reason than anything that humans do anywhere in the world is likely to be less than perfect.
The left has a double standard whereby any evil done in a communist or Islamo-fascist country is denied or excused while any failure to meet an arbitrary measure of perfection in a free country is condemned. The left is all concerned about the prisoners in Guantanimo, but they are not in the least even curious about the fate of Fidel Castro's prisoners. If women achieve legal equality in Iraq you can expect the left to go into all sorts of contortions about how equality for women in this case is somehow "disruptive" or "unnatural" and what an "unfair burden" it is for women to vote and get an education.
Hang him by his wrists and lower him foot first into one of his shredders for innocent Iraqis.
I moved there in '72. But my friends and I used to go "over the hill" just about every weekend before that.
You ever been to the Red White & Boobie beach? If not, I highly recommend it.
But the cesspool is starting to evaporate, little be little.
Maybe so. From what I've read, it looks like they're running out of money for all their pet projects. Even some of the liberals are starting to sound conservative (relatively speaking, anyway).
Wonders never cease. ;)
Good choice. Public hanging is my favorite for mass-murdering dictators.
I am doing work and listening to the Cure's new album. I know something of strange moods, as such.
Enjoy your Independence Day holiday.

I'm hoping Michael Moore will take the "Tale of Two Cities" approach, and switch places with Saddam.
"It is a far better thing I do Today.....
Ah, but would the rope be sturdy enough?
Also, let's not forget, the worst punishment for Michael Moore is to be Michael Moore. ;)

A Fat(e) worse than death if there ever was one.
He'll be able to get a new wardrobe at Marlon Brando's estate sale.
When they hang him they need to leave 10 feet of slack in the rope and tie 200lbs to his feet.
How about volley stoning. Lots of Iraqis could participate. The first several volleys could be with shoes.
How about something a little more "High Tech"? Immerse him in a vat of liquid oxygen till he's frozen solid, then chuck him off the roof of the building and watch him shatter into a million pieces.
You know how all the liberals do not want the the US to have any influence in Iraq? They say the hand over is a sham. Wait till the trial. They are gonna want western judicial values there big time!!! You wait and see.
