There was just a black female singer in a gold dress who sang "Georgia." She was great. Right before they played a tape of Ray Charles performing "America."
Cicely Tyson was a bit over the top with her introduction of that Ray Charles' song though. "Today, on this day when the entire nation pays tribute to ... Ray Charles...."
Yes, Ray Charles was a great singer, but that isn't what we're primarily paying tribute to today. ;)
