Nearly identical. The boat # was 41433. It looked like a monster compared to mine. Big twin diesels growling away . . .
The tow to the harbor wasn't bad at all, though it did have its moments. They tied off to the trailer tie-down/tow ring on the bow. The tow line would get slack because of the wave action, then tight again all of a sudden. BOING!!
The tricky part came when we got to the harbor; it was too shallow for them to go in to the harbor itself, so they had to 'slingshot' us in. We had to tie off to their port side and got banged around a bit. I ended up snapping off a handrail cleat when a bumper got out of place; we were banging up against them pretty good because of the waves. It was a bit of a tricky maneuver.
I wish the water had been as smooth as that picture . . .

Wow! You did have quite the adventure. Glad that you got back in almost in one piece. Considering the wave action, losing a handrail cleat is relatively minor. Glad all is well. Was somebody waiting to "pick you up" as the Coast Guard brought you in?

Two young cadets drove to the harbor (Bender, south of Milwaukee) in a pickup to give us a hand when we made it in; grab the lines, that sort of thing. Then there was the small matter of the post-rescue inspection; they waived most of it. They could tell we were serious about being in compliance . . .
I was impressed by the skill with which the captain managed the helm of that boat. He couldn't have been a day over 25 years old. Given the water conditions, he did a remarkable job with a vessel that can't be the easiest thing to pilot. He kept reminding the officer working the bow line not to fall in; I had to laugh. I'd bet there is a good story in there somewhere . . .
To: BraveMan
When the 41 "shot" you in, were the docks within heaving range? The Coast Guard has lots of "kids" that practice their "stuff" every day, just for these occasions. I'm glad you made their live easier by being in compliance. It has to be annoying/frustrating rescuing those with no regard for safety.
