The Note ^ | June 30, 2004 | ABC News Political Staff

Here are the big dirty little secrets about the election, all guaranteed to be true and (almost) all guaranteed to make every one of our sources angry.

. . .

3. A lot of Democrats — including some of the smartest ones we know — look at the latest polling data and claim to think that the election is all but over.

It's all over. Bush should just admit defeat and hand everything thing over to Kerry right now.

Idiots!

Bush is trending up, and the trend is your friend.

Exactly. This is what I've thought would happen all along: slowly but inexorably, Bush pulls ahead, with perhaps a Kerry bump now and then from his Veep pick or his convention.

I think a lot of Dems may think they have a better than 50-50 shot at the election, but they can't possibly believe it's in the bag.

Unless maybe he means that they don't think they have a chance of winning.

* - "kakistocracy" - Government by the worst people in the state.

That's especially pertinent because, if I'm not mistaken, "kakos" in Greek means "bad."

The way I read it is that they know Kerry has already lost it. The opening boasts about angering "sources".

I keep hearing pundits exclaim that Keryy should have opened a wide lead in the past few month and hasn't. The public just isn't buying it.

Or they've swallowed those bogus polls that oversampled Democrats.

The other thing is the weakness of the polling data.

If you adjust the polls to reflect actual party breakdown and adjust for likely voters rather than registered voters, the polls are starting to show a pretty consistent 5-point Bush lead.

The laughable CBS/NYT poll of a couple days ago, the one which oversampled Democrats and polled registered voters, showed a 1-point race. It was spun as bad news for Bush, when in fact it was good news. When adjusted for party ID and likely voters the poll would show Bush up by at least 5 points.

Make no mistake about it, the Note is full of garbage. But it's kind of fun to read, just as Howard Kurtz is kind of fun to read.

Given all the bad news for Bush, why can't Kerry pull ahead of Bush? I say it's another squeaker. I have my fingers and toes crossed.

Uh, the latest polls have Dubya ahead (FOX, Gallup, Battleground). Not only in national polls, but in almost every swing state as well, including MI, PA, AZ, WI, WV, and OH. I wish they were right.

If Hyde can get his bill through in time, illegals will have a harder time voting. If the Dems think Kerry is going to win it is because of the illegals, who are millions stronger since the last election.

I think you are a 180 degrees off on your reading of this comment.

Consider why Kerry was the fourth choice of Democrats six months ago today...and how he ended up getting the nomination. It wasn't because of anything He Did, it was due to the Dean implosion, the unions weakening hold on its memberships votes which sunk Gephardt, Kucinich's lunacies, Wes Clark's penchant for gossip mongering.

Krauthammer was correct when he summarized the Democratic Presidential field of candidates as "The weakest and weirdest in the last century" or words to that effect.

I think the key "stat" many of the experts fail to note is this. The Democratic Party has FAILED for over a decade now. The only "win" they can count of significance is the 1996 election cycle, and keeping Clinton in the Whitehouse despite impeachment. The facts are very clear. Thousands of elective offices lost during the 1990's, from local to Federal. Decreasing membership within the party itself. A much more fragile "coalition" that makes up the "machine" of the Democratic Party.

And the single most unspoken problem is....

What, exactly, is the Agenda for America that the Democratic Party brings to the table? I've been asking that question online for five years now...and have never gotten a answer.

We are seeing the death of Clintonian Politics of Personal Destruction, folks. I know, it doesn't quite seem that way due to the Moore movie, and the books ripping the President.

But consider this. After the hundreds of millions of dollars, after all that ranting and raving by the nine dwarf's in the primaries, after all the slanted news coverage since 2000.....how is it the President isn't losing by twenty points?

Easy, if you think about it. Americans don't find any Democrat "attractive" at this point, they find them all to varying degrees "ugly" or boring, or a combination of the two.

If the Democrats fail once again at the polls, as they have in three straight elections, the Clintonian influence within the DNC ends. Nobody likes to lose...and the Clinton's personal choices to head the DNC have lost, and lost, and lost. One more asskicking ought to "get er done" as the saying goes.

Just my opinion.

"Finally, this election is event-driven. The calculus could change if there's another terrorist strike."

Exactly how I feel.

These times are so turbulent, anything can happen. And the dems learned that if they do or release something 4 days before an election, they can affect the results. And I really think a major attack is going to be planned just before the election.

Bush will win this election and the left will riot. Their pent up anger and hatred will turn violent.

Look for sections of blue zone cities to be burned to the ground in early November.
