The Note ^ | June 30, 2004 | ABC News Political Staff

Here are the big dirty little secrets about the election, all guaranteed to be true and (almost) all guaranteed to make every one of our sources angry.

. . .

3. A lot of Democrats — including some of the smartest ones we know — look at the latest polling data and claim to think that the election is all but over.

I don't understand why someone who voted for Gore in '00 and now will vote for Bush would lie to a reporter. Lord knows the Bush voters going to Kerry are loud and self-righteous about it; if I'd been a 'RAT in '00 and had been woken up by 9/11 like Zell Miller or Ed Koch, I'd want to help others make the same decision. Hands down, that was the weirdest and most potentially disturbing item on the list.

Perhaps the ones who are changing their votes are embarrassed that they voted for Gore in the first place! At any rate, these type of surveys are notoriously unreliable. I also think it's the seminar caller phenomenon that accounts for this being a one-sided statistic. I can't tell you how many times some reporter has interviewed a so-called Republican who's now against Bush, and a simple Google search will show that the person was never a Republican in the first place!

Cheney is very competent experienced leader, however, he is perceived negatively. Hence he is a burden on the ticket. Bush had limited experience, and Cheney, the adult, was needed to assure people that steady hands will be in control. Now Chaney is viewed as the careless guy and Bush as the steady guy. But, enough of that stupid perception crap. Any new shake up in the top government post is always designed to say we are going to do things different. You don't have to do thing different, just say that you will, and the people will be happy.

The bet is for an adult beverage. It was a thinly designed opportunity to gloat! Of course my Dem friend didn't pick up on the disguise.

In my opinion, I thing 45 states is a real possibility. In my state, which always goes dem, the race is very tight. In addition, the dems are not excited about their own candidate. That spells less dem turnout.

Of course I may very well be wrong about the margin of victory, but it will be a victory.

What you do is pay a lot of money to some woman who dated GWB one time in 1968. These are Democrats, after all...truth is immaterial.

So that is why they can't get anyone but Clinton left-overs on the talk shows?

"I would like Bush to articulate a vision for 2005-2009"

Based on the past, I suspect he will. And he will do what he says. Welcome to FreeRepublic, BTW. Careful though: it is pretty addictive. Have a good 4th.....
