On the way into work at 6:20am, I was listening to local radio station, WBSA's (www.wsba910.com) Dennis Edwards, interview of Paul L. Williams, author of his new book, "Osama's Revenge: The Next 9-11", who said there are already 20-40 tactical (10 kiloton) nukes in the US, in major cities. He also said that in October 2001, George Tenet testified that he'd sent President Bush a memo detailing some of the information and the serial numbers of two (2) of the nukes.
Anyone else hear this? Really ruined my day, if true.
I'm in the York-Lancaster, PA area, and have seen numerous men in blue military field uniforms with NEST on the backs of their suits, over the past 4-5 weeks.
We have Three Mile Island (north) and Peach Bottom (southeast) nuclear reactors within 20 miles of my home and business, but otherwise this area is not a "target-rich" environment.
I did a Google search for that acronym and didn't find anything relating to Nuclear Emergency Search Team or anything close to it, after 8 pages. FR has a few articles in their search archives.
It's 7:53am as I write this. and the next interview with author Williams will be on at 8:10am. You can get it streamed over the Net. They also carry Rush and Hannity daily. Sorry I didn't get this on sooner, but I have 4 landscape crews to brief and get moving, plus the retail garden center staff to get started-up and moving by 7am.
If this book is even partially accurate, we have a major headache brewing.

Whatever for? By the time there was even the glimmering of a possiblity of stopping missile-delivered nukes, the USSR was out of business.
After visiting Port Charleston, SC, back in January to pick up a glider we were importing from Germany and seeing absolutely no apparent increased security, i.e., no harbor patrol, no Coast Guard, no video surveilence, only one (brain dead) security guard at the guard shack, so, no I don't feel safer. A week later President Bush gave a speech from the exact spot where I waited for our illustrious Customs Agents to process my paperwork and there were 3 Coast Guard ships in the harbor, several harbor partrol boats, security cameras and cops everywhere, Secret Service, etc. It became very apparent that we are wide open and all the hooha about "homeland security" is smoke and mirrors for the most part.
I do wireless telecommunications system testing. I've worked on the Mexican border in several places in CA, AZ, NM and TX and have seen with my own eyes illegals going back and forth with no one questioning them, including border guards who were more interested as to why we had a guy on a tower than the illegals streaming across.
The barge thing came up when I was talking to a guy who runs a tugboat business pushing barges up and down the Tennessee and Ohio Rivers. He seemed to think that it would be easy to bring anything you wanted to any place you wanted on the river system since nobody is checking. A "device" could be stored on a moored barge for months until they were ready to use it.
I doubt we'll see another successful attack in New York City or Washington, DC, due to the security measures in place, but other, smaller cities in the "heartland" such as St. Louis, Cincinatti, Louisville, Chattanooga, Memphis, Quad Cities, and Kansas City, among others, would seem to be softer targets vunerable to attack from the rivers they sit on.
Something tells me this is going to get a whole lot worse before it's over.
Even a simple fission bomb has issues with radiation degrading various elements (most notably the electronics, but also the precision charges of chemical explosive).
The issues with "suitcase nukes" are considerably more intransigent -- you just can't make something that small go critical without various high-maintenance complications (e.g. tritium "spiking").
I was under the impression that these devices need a type of upkeep that terrorists can't provide. It's not beyond the realm of possibility, but it's unlikely.
I think our entrance into Afghanistan and/or Iraq would have triggered a nuclear response if they had the ability to deliver it.
I think if we ever suffer such an attack it will be from several nations at the same time. Our response would be lame, fractured, or non-existant.
Anything is possible. We have no way of knowing what is being planned, or for when.
I find it heartening that people are aware enough to be discussing it openly on FR. Knowledge is always useful, even if we don't know when we're going to need it.
Even worse, tritium turns into helium-3, a substance that diffuses through pretty much any barrier and scarfs up neutrons like Michael Moore scarfs up greaseburgers. Fissionable material permeated with helium-3 makes a nice paperweight.
Speaking of which . . . how long before some of our ships start coming back into port?

Thats an eveb bigger bunch of horse crap. What happens if we happen to find a nuke in the US that is state sponsored? Guess what happens to the sponsoring nation?
We all know that mini nukes are in the hands of countries that are friends of the US. These countries can be seeking to put us on notice that we are not going to get away with absolute disregard to their interests. Smuggling such devices to the US is not a bog deal, as we have seen on TV. Therefore, the potential of such devices being hidden in unfriendly embassies is very possible. Having said so, I doubt that any of these countries would risk a nuclear war against the US. These devices are here essentially as an insurance policy? The secret service people have lots insider information, and if they estimated that such possibility is here, I believe them. However, I am very surprised at the number 20-40? I would have imagined one or two at the most! But they get the big bucks for being the experts?

I still think Col Ka-Daffy(duck) knows we're going to get hit hard and by whom, and he's decided to make nice to get off of our 'short list' for retaliation, for when it does happen. I've been suspicious of his sudden attitude turnaround since day one. JMHO.
Yeah, I know: lousy sentence. But I'm juggling projects, customers, calls, and retail traffic, not to mention an accident/injury with one of the landscape teams.
But why would they plant nukes and then just wait? It makes no sense. If they had them in place, they'd detonate them.
I am thinking they are probably playing chiken game like we used to do with USSR?
Why blackmail us? Why not just support John F'n Kerry for President. He'll have the troops home before Christmas...
