WOULD YOU ENLIST TODAY, TO JOIN THE WAR ON TERROR, IF THE MILITARY WOULD HAVE YOU?
self | 6-29-2004 | self - vanity - poll

Posted on 06/29/2004 1:44:09 PM PDT by BagCamAddict

If there were no restrictions on age, weight, fitness, etc., would you sign up to join the War on Terror??

This is a vanity poll, due to the news today that the Army may be dipping into the Individual Ready Reserve pool. Several Freepers have indicated they would go if called upon, but they don't think they will be called due to their age.

Please post ONLY ONCE, and ONLY IF YOU WOULD GO, so that we can easily see the tally by looking at the number of replies.

Age 50, Had lottery number 26 but they only got up to 21 that year. Didn't volunteer then but would have gone if called............In hindsight wish I had volunteered. Definate yes now with more wisdom.

I'd go back as a SP-5, if they would take a 52 year old.

I've actually given some light thought to going as a contractor, but am scared of getting killed (by my wife).

I actually looked into the various reserves/guard options a few weeks ago and I appear to be too old (38).

HUP SARG.! Count me in with those Screamin Bald Eagles.

I would do whatever they would let an old man do.

Geronimo.

Yes I would go. I have thought about this a lot and even although I an over age and would have to find someone to look after my kids I would go if they would have me. I would want to fight in Afghanistan or Iraq. I could drive a hummer or fire a 50 calibre. Can I bring my own steel plate to beef up the hummer?

Actually this is kind of like how I found out about 9/11. I was walking down to the local shops when I overheard a guy in his mid 50's very angry and wishing he could find a recruitment office to join the army! I realised something big must have happened .... I found our soon after.

I'm on XRP's side on this one.

You knew this was going to be a problem once they called it a "war on terror" instead of a war against specific enemies of the United States.

As soon as the phrase "war on terror" appeared in the media, you knew it wasn't going to be any more successful than those other idiotic wars against nebulous, unspecified enemies . . . "war on poverty," "war on drugs," "war on illiteracy," etc., etc.

Wanted to add that husband would go, too. And my two young sons, ages 10 and 8, often say they wish they could be soldiers and help defend our freedom. They often include our military members in their prayers. God bless the USA!

There are a lot of ways to help in the WOT without shouldering a rifle. I'm sure the guys who fought in Vietnam would agree that good support means more than just having enough people and equipment. When the troops know tha people appreciate what they're risking their lives for, that really makes a difference.

Just because you're too young or old to serve under arms doesn't mean that your support won't be noticed or appreciated by those that do.
