If there were no restrictions on age, weight, fitness, etc., would you sign up to join the War on Terror??

This is a vanity poll, due to the news today that the Army may be dipping into the Individual Ready Reserve pool. Several Freepers have indicated they would go if called upon, but they don't think they will be called due to their age.

Please post ONLY ONCE, and ONLY IF YOU WOULD GO, so that we can easily see the tally by looking at the number of replies.

Age 41 here as well. I'd love to go if they would take me. Heck, I'd love to serve as a Vulcan gunner on an AC-130 Spectre.

I am 51 and a Vietnam Era Vet serving three years in Seoul SK and I would go as long as I could serve along the side of my son in Iraq.

This old ranger volunteered before and would do it again if they'd have me. I don't suppose they'd let me still jump out of perfectly good airplanes, though. Still sounds like fun...

My question is: Is there anything we can all do to help? I know that some of the branches have auxiliary units with no age limitations - that's a start. Is there anything else?

I would sign up in a heartbeat, but not to join the U.S. military. I don't trust anyone, and I don't answer to anyone else when it comes to this kind of crap.

Hey jerkoff, maybe you should read the thread a little closer.

Posts #46 and #78 posted similar responses as mine. That being said, I'd be all for it if the Armed Forces weren't forced to fight with a political handicap. I just went into more detail as to why I don't think the WoT is being fought as well as it could due to the politicians. The Armed Forces are doing as good a job as they can, but they could do a lot better if the politicians would let them.

At 54 I'd go in a minute, IF:

NO RUNNING

They would allow me to take a few of those Pershing's, I worked on (nukes) or snipe. Either way I can kill you, WITHOUT RUNNING.

They let me go overseas not sit behind a damn desk stateside.

I was Regular Army during Vietnam and would be happy to go again, but NO RUNNING!

Oh, and She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed would go now if they'd have her, but she, too is 41, and has a bad back. In any event, she's got the smarts to run the show stateside as well. So for me, "Let's play two!"

Sign me up. At 43 I still have some fight left.

I remember in 1979 Jimmy Carter re-instituted draft registration. I think they were doing the 19 year olds the first week and then 18 year olds the next, when I saw some creepy wuss-puss looking hippy protester crying for the TV cameras in front of the post office, so I elbowed my way past the sissy and filled out my card a week early.

The news people out front interviewed me and I was on two LA evening news broadcasts that week (I guess you could say I was freeping before there was such a thing, though I was GranadaHillsDan in those days)

At age 62, Would I go? Yes.
You don't know how great it is until you go into a potential conflict with guys who will stand with you until you either win or die. Qutting or running is not an option.
