Poll: Bush running even with Kerry (CBS News-New York Times poll)

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Bush has pulled back into a tie with Democrat John Kerry in a CBS News-New York Times poll released Monday, apparently boosted by increasing optimism about the economy.

The race remains very close even though Bush's job approval rating was at 42 percent — the lowest level in this poll amid rising concerns about Iraq and terrorism.

Kerry had 45 percent support and Bush by 44 percent in the poll. In a three-way matchup, Kerry and Bush were still running even while independent Ralph Nader was at 5 percent.

In May, Kerry led Bush by 8 percentage points in a two-way matchup, and by 6 points in a three-way matchup.

The poll found a slight increase in the number of people who said the economy is getting better — from 25 percent to 30 percent — and a significant decline in the number who said it's getting worse — from 21 percent to 30 percent.

Three-fourths of those who say the economy is improving support Bush, and three-fourths of those who say it's getting worse support Kerry.

While Bush's support on Iraq has been dropping in several polls, the public's view of the economy has been gradually improving — reflecting several months of indications that the economy is bouncing back.

The poll of 1,053 adults, including 875 registered voters, was taken June 23-27 and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

"The poll of 1,053 adults, including 875 registered voters,"

Not even all registered voters??? Just adults? This would mean a HUGE lead for Bush among likely voters, and they know it.

Iraqi transfer of power. U.N. welcoming a free Iraq into the family. Nato troops on the way to train Iraqi forces. Economy is growing and gas prices are coming down....I can hear the loudspeakers at the Demonratic Convention in Boston now: Paging Dr. Jack Kevorkian...Paging Dr. Jack Kevorkian....

So why doesn't the headline read "Kerry even with Bush"?

Another biased poll by CBS/NYT. I am absolutely confident that this poll is somewhere between 7 to 10 points biased in favor of Kerry, and President Bush still in tie with Kerry. Deep inside, the liberals are just scared to death because they know they are losing, and losing badly.

Odd how they say 42% is the lowest approval for the poll, consider how last time it was 41%. I guess they are trying to make up headlines.

CBS polls for whatever reason always have Bush's approval about 8-10 points below other polls, while other numbers match up with other polls. *shrug*

The primary reason that Bush has not gotten a bump from the economy is that the price of gasoline was going up. Now, that has changed.

Bingo. This is the only way they can skew the poll to make it look like a dead heat.

Judging from all the poll data I've glanced at lately, my spidey sense tells me that Bush is +6, and that's a conservative estimate. The Iraq turnover and the dems overplaying their hand with F911 will only begin to increase that number.

Since the lefties would be more likely to spill over to the pollsters, while the conservatives, OTOH, would be more likely to tell the pollsters where to go and what to do, both on the way and once there (maybe quoting Cheney in the process), it follows that the poll results need a serious correlation coefficient like x1.1 -1.15 in Bush's favor

If you read the entire poll on Drudge (yes, AP edited it) you'll see that sKerry's negatives are going up, which is key for us. I mean, how can they not? He's got the personality of dry toast and also, for the past two weeks we've been reminded of what it's like to have a sleazebag Rat in the Oval Office. I truly beleive the more he shows of himself toward November, the more his negative rating will increase.

From http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/06/28/opinion/polls/main626478.shtml

""Kerry’s image has suffered slightly in the past month: he is now viewed slightly more unfavorably than favorably by voters. Like last month, however, he still elicits no opinion from many – a reminder that Election Day is still far off and many voters have yet to see or hear much about the challenger. This is not unusual: in 1992 Bill Clinton was also unknown to more than one-third of the electorate at this point. George W. Bush – who not surprisingly is far better known – also gets more negative than positive ratings. ""

OPINIONS OF THE CANDIDATES
(Registered Voters)

Bush
Now
Favorable 39%
Unfavorable 45%
Undecided/Unknown 16%

Last month
Favorable 36%
Unfavorable 47%
Undecided/Unknown 16%

Kerry
Now
Favorable 29%
Unfavorable 35%
Undecided/Unknown 36%

Last month
Favorable 32%
Unfavorable 32%
Undecided/Unknown 35%

You notice how much the press has been using polls of just adults or just registered voters? The main stream media seems to be avoiding polls with likely voters this time around. Of course, I think we all know why that is.

The correct title should have been- " John Kerry in Free Fall. Plummets 8 points in One Month."

From CBS.com
" This is a sharp turnaround for the Bush campaign in the span of just one month;
in May, Kerry had opened up a wide 8-point lead over Bush. "

When a network such as CBS says Bush and Kerry are running even, the way to read that is that Bush is way out front!!!

Figures....but why would the Democrats want all registered voters to tell us who they are going to vote for? Voter Fraud is synonymous with Democrat right?

Besides which, they probably called the DNC to get their poll answered anyway.....
