Update:

IRAQ HANDOVER 'TODAY'

The handover of power in Iraq is to be brought forward to today.

A formal announcement will be made later today, Tony Blair said.

The informal announcement was made by Iraq's foreign minister Hoshyar Zebari.

The handover of power to an interim Iraqi government was supposed to take place on June 30.

Mr Zebari said the deteriorating security situation in the country was one of the reasons why the date had been brought forward.

"We will challenge these elements in Iraq, the anti-democratic elements, by even bringing the handover of sovereignty before June 30 as a sign we are ready for it," he said.

He added: "We have made some very good progress in terms of the new security council (in Iraq) and the return of sovereignty to the Iraqi people to take away the level of occupation we have suffered a great deal from.

"There are many Iraqis who are standing up to the challenge. We are here to seek more help and assistance, training and equipment."

This morning around 7:am, I turned on the FOX Network to watch continuing coverage of the turning over of Iraq. Just for fun, I switched the channel to ABC to see what they had on. They were showing a -robust- Michael Moore celebrating ticket sales for his movie Farenheit 911. Back to FOX, there was more continuing coverage of Iraq. Back to ABC found in-depth coverage of Who Might Be John Kerry's Running Mate. Now, we can all sit back and listen to the left complain about how the early turnover was a mistake, unless nobody dies, yes?

I pipe up "yeah, he's such a bad guy we just turned over control of Iraq to the new Iraqi government - did you catch the news? No? Two days early. Quite a day for freedom, isnt' it? So how was the movie?"

GOD, that's good! LOLOL!

Another reason I think the transfer happened today is because perhaps they wanted to catch the terrorists off-guard and do it now. This way, if terrorists were planning on striking during the June 30th date, they've caught them unawares.

I haven't read the over 1,000+ posts, so forgive me if this has been asked already. But, has anyone heard the ABC radio news guy carrying on about this as if it's HORRIBLE? He makes some comment about the fact that it was two days early means that security is a huge problem and that's why we did it early. He talks about Bremer leaving the country because he's scared to death. Now, I know that the media has been focusing on the security issues, but this particular ABC report that I've been hearing on the radio is particularly offensive. The guy sounds like he's scared to death and that this is the end of the world.

The liberal news media is not going to give you "validation."

They are not going to celebrate our victories. They are not going to admit their own defeats.

So if you are thinking that the liberal news media is going to reassure you, validate your beliefs, calm you, or present a fair and balanced view of the world, then you are in for a lifetime of disappointments.

On the other hand, if you take a single step back and look at the big picture, what the liberal media tells us that matters is that they were caught off guard, that they are afraid that things are going well for us, and that they think that they need to "convince" more people to go over to their side against us.

Because the news isn't in what Michael Moore says in his interview with the liberal news media, but rather that they are interviewing Michael Moore (i.e. a diehard true believer in the Left)...because that tells you that they think that they are doing so poorly that they need to work harder to get out the "message" of the Left.

Likewise, the news isn't that ABC is talking about Senator Kerry or talking down the Iraqi handover, but rather, that they feel that their own views are doing so poorly that they need more airtime to prop them up.

That's what you should get out watching the liberal news media; the "why" behind whatever it is that they are showing on your screen.

Not validation. Not praises for our side. Not admissions that they did wrong. You aren't going to get any of that from the left-wing news media.

But what you can get from them is a window into their own insecurities. Simply watch what they think that they have to keep showing their audience...because many times that's where they are admitting where they feel they are weak.

Does anyone know where to send email to congratulate and wish the Iraqi people well?

Here's an excellent audio primer on how the new Iraqi government is structured.

With a glass of wine, I am going to tune in to Peter Jennings...well, I'm going to try anyway.

In the wee hours this morning, I heard an MSNBC reporterette was telling us it is very hot in Iraq, and there is no air conditioning, because there is no power. Bunch of garbage!

You are right in your assessment of the ABC reporter/newsreader. Many news outlets have been treating today's news as a real downer. I guess they are too upset with Bush's success that they cannot begin to hide their partisanship.

Had my fill of Jennings--it was ugly.

Jennings:"Paul Bremer boarded a cargo plane today headed home." [emphasis because, after all, home is a 4 letter word] "Some people will miss him, many people will not."

Enough of Jennings.

Methinks you read a little too much into my post. I agree with you 100%. I'm not waiting for the mainstream media to change. I just thought that the reporter to whom I was referring was particularly over the edge today and wondered if anyone else heard him and knew what I was talking about.

Anyone want to guess how many millions that note will be worth at auction?

It's part of history now. If it doesn't go to the Smithsonian, it will find a home in George W's future Presidential library.

I'd say, anything that raises the probability of George W's reelection pretty much is the end of the world for him.

Ten minutes, enough time for any thinking person to second guess the wisdom of sujecting oneself to that kind of torture.
