ENNIS, Ireland - The US administration confirmed it had axed an interview that US First Lady Laura Bush had been due to grant to Irish public television RTE, only two days after the broadcaster's exclusive interview with the US president himself.
No explanation was given for the schedule change, but journalists travelling with the Bush entourage in Europe noted that the cancellation had come a day after George W. Bush's less-than-sunny showing in his RTE exclusive.
During that interview, given on Thursday in Washington, Bush displayed annoyance and at one point lost his temper when he was contradicted by Irish journalist Carole Coleman.
"Let me finish please. Let me answer your question and then you'll follow up," a visibly annoyed Bush told her.
During that interview, given on same day that a wave of coordinated attacks across Iraq (news - web sites) cost at least 90 lives, Bush insisted his actions were improving the state of the world.
"I do believe the world is a safer place and becoming a safer place," he told RTE.
Asked about the mounting death toll in Iraq, Bush commented: "Nobody cares more about the deaths than I do".
After a summit with European Union (news - web sites) leaders in Ireland on Saturday, Bush flew to Turkey, where he will attend a NATO (news - web sites) summit in Istanbul.
During that interview, given on Thursday in Washington, Bush displayed annoyance and at one point lost his temper when he was contradicted by Irish journalist Carole Coleman.
And the paragraph prior to it
WTF? I saw the clip. He was annoyed at being interrupted, but that was far from losing his temper.
Hell, he didn't even walk out of the interview.
What bothers me is the presumption of the reporter. She speaks as thought she were on the same footing as the President. Don't give this Irish setter the time of day.
That's a typical liberal media distortion of the facts. They take one small incident and make it sound much worse than what actually happened. There "reporters" are so dishonest, it's pathetic.
Bush was also much calmer than when Clinton blew up on a British dude.
Don't insult a noble canine by comparing it to this reporter b****. Funny how the news here only played the President's response and not her rudeness which provoked it.
Bush was far too polite to the reporter. She was being an obnoxious boor and argumentative.
That is one reason why I asked the Admin moderator to add the barf alert. I didn't know if it desrved one or not
He should have told her what Dick Cheney told Leahy
Here's where I wish Bush were faster on his feet.
Alternative response: "What do you mean 'mounting death toll? Every month Saddam is not in power, another 5000 Iraqis aren't murdered. Saddam's Baathist thugs and foreign terrorists are still murdering people today. Why aren't you angry at the murderers, rather than the people who are saving lives?"
hehe !
SO9
Here is the real story behind Dick Cheney's use of the 'F' word to the two-faced back-stabber Patrick Leahy:Leahy was attacking Cheney's credibility over the Halliburton contracts awarded in Iraq. Cheney was the CEO of Halliburton before he accepted the VP position with Bush. Cheney resigned from the company and put his assets in a blind trust. He totally severed his interests with the company. Leahy was saying that Cheney was responsible for giving those contracts to Halliburton.

Democrats want Cheney-Halliburton probe
Republicans dismiss questions about contract

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A Democratic senator Tuesday called for a congressional investigation into whether Vice President Dick Cheney had a role in awarding a no-bid contract in Iraq to his old company, the oil-services giant Halliburton.
"It's a legitimate question," said Sen. Patrick Leahy, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee. "It raises the real question, can the American people trust their government to do the right thing? We have very real rules here."
Cheney's office has said repeatedly that the vice president has no role in government contracting and has severed all financial ties with the Texas-based Halliburton.
Vice President Dick Cheney was chief executive officer
of Halliburton before he became George Bush's running
mate.
Meek here again:
Then, after accusing Cheney of this BS above, Patrick Leahy went up to Cheney during the Senate photo session this week acting like he was Cheney's good friend and all that. Leahy has a reputation of doing this in the Senate (from what I've heard) and Cheney called him on it. I can't blame Cheney in the least. Leahy calls for an investigation of Cheney and then acts like nothing happened?? Sheesh. What a two-face backstabbing arse. I'm glad Cheney told Leahy to bug off !!
good one, JTN, you said:
"What do you mean 'mounting death toll? Every month Saddam is not in power, another 5000 Iraqis aren't murdered. Saddam's Baathist thugs and foreign terrorists are still murdering people today. Why aren't you angry at the murderers, rather than the people who are saving lives?"
He just wasn' t gonna let his wife be treated that rudely if he could stop it.Exactly! Nobody should tolerate that kind of treatment. Not President Bush, not me, not my dog. Nobody.
Now, the president hollaring at a moron who's asking him stupid questions about rumors that have been debunked over and over....yeah, now that might be a reason. "Abu Graib, Abu Graib, Afghan Wedding, Prisoner Abuse, Iraqi Wedding, Prisoner Abuse, Naked MEN!!!! OOOOO Naked MEN!!!...Quagmire, Prisoner Abuse, More Troops, Quagmire, Vietnam, Prisoner Abuse, Naked MEN!!!... Vietnam...."
I hope the reporter has a black eye.
Good, I'm glad they cancelled the interview. If RTE can't find any reporters with manners they deserve to be shut out.
...I disagree. It wouldn't be prudent. To disagreeing friends and colleagues, as a last resort, appropriate...
It seems the Irish are just more rude European elitists. Coming from a country whose only exports is booze and emigrants, it's no wonder.
No class. I bet they'll see eye to eye with somebody like Vincente Fox.
