Abu Yussuf said the captors had been paid $4m (£2.2m) to let them live. Gino Strada, an Italian surgeon involved in attempts to broker their release, said he had been told by “sources in Iraq” that $9m (£4.9m) had changed hands.

This isn't going to be very helpful if our allies are going to enrich the enemy like this.

Very chilling reading, but I thank you for posting it. Slowly but surely as these tactics are uncovered we will find ways to counter them. Personally, I would just bomb the whole city, good ones and bad ones, and know that if they eventually got the message that I had saved a lot of American lives. They've made it pretty clear they consider it us or them, and they've openly declared war on us to make sure we get the point. I would give them back their cursed country, then use whatever troops it takes to put up cordon around it that NO ONE could get through without our permission. I would cut off their airline service and their communications via satellite to the rest of the world and they could just spend what's left of their worthless lives fighting with each other over the dwindling supplies. I am a firm believer in 'live and let live' but when it comes down to me or them I am going to do everything in my power to make certain it's them. And it if turns out to be me, a lot of them are going to go with me. We'll all stand before the judgment throne and we'll see who gets virgins and who is sent to everlasting torment in the fires of hell. I am completely and totally fed up with the whole idea of their religion of peace. Everyone of them is the worst kind of coward. The militants because they never take on anyone who stands a chance of beating them and the non-militants because they don't have the courage to stand up to the others.
