Home Depot donates $1M to military

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Retailer Home Depot Inc. is donating $1 million in tools and materials to support the U.S. military in Iraq.

The company said it is sending nine truck trailers to the military, filled with 100,000 tools and materials, including shovels, table saws, concrete mixers, safety scaffolding, power generators, light bulbs and jackhammers. The donated goods left San Diego on Thursday.

This is a great reminder for me to choose Home Depot over the other store near my house.

Now, if Home Depot would only stock table saws that don't suck.

Really though, I had to buy a gift certificate from either HD or bLowes. Looks like HD wins.

Another example of one of those "bad" corporations and the way they put it to the rest of us. < /sarcasm>

Ditto. We have a new Lowe's which is closer to my house, but Home Depot gets my $ after reading this!

Good for Home Depot! What bothers me is that the military is in need of donations.

My son's transportation company is using radios donated to them from "The Hobbit Hole" right here at Free Republic because their army issued ones didn't work.

They were able to do this because I just gave them $1 million to fix up my house!!!! Okay, so it wasn't that much but as often as we go in there it sure feels like it!! :-)

When I was doing side cleaners on my ship (During Clinton's reign), I'd constantly have to go to Home Depot for painting supplies, fiberglass repair kits for our paint punts, etc. Yes, I used my own money.

Don't forget to thank them.

Their Web Page has a customer service pull-down at the top where you can send them an email.

This is probably for the off duty reconstruction that the servicemen are doing.

By the way I have to rebuild my porch this summer, looks like home depot gets my money!

FYI.. Iheard another "good" story about HD this morning...the company has several hundred of its employees ( reservists) now deployed in Iraq and elsewheres, so the company and the rest of the employees have set up a progrqam to do all the home repairs/renovatios, whatever, for those serving, while, they're away..

I know that I am asking to be flamed by bringing up Wal-Mart but their most recent donation -(and there have been many) was 5,000 six hour phone cards. Sent mostly to our troops in hospitals in Germany and other places.

Home Depot is great. Too bad so much of their hardware is made in China.

The equipment we have or the lack there of can be attributed to your fun loving Congress. They give the bucks and approve the equipment to be purchased. Good ole Johnny Flipping Kerry voted against money for all these things.

Lowes is a mile away, Home Depot 5 miles.

Now I have reason to shop only at HD, other than already thinking their service and selection is superior to Lowes.

GenMills sent us phone cards all the time, AT&T sets up Free SAT phones at port of call so we can make 10 min calls. they do charge for longer ones though. you can get a list of contributers from MWR and the USO. Coke Budweiser always sponsors military events. And I guarentee that $1m is a drop in the bucket for what they actually give to the soldiers and sailors through MWR and USO events.
