Streisand, Diamond to duet for John Kerry
Gala concerts to be held to help the Democratic candidate
Updated: 8:37 p.m. ET June 23, 2004
LOS ANGELES - Barbra Streisand and Neil Diamond will sing together for the first time in 24 years Thursday, bringing not flowers but millions of dollars for Democrat John Kerry’s U.S. presidential campaign.

Streisand, Hollywood's most prominent Democratic supporter, tops the bill in the first part of what organisers are calling one of the most ambitious celebrity political fund-raisers for years - gala concerts on both US coasts featuring a broad array of stage and screen stars.

The Los Angeles concert on Thursday, and a concert in New York July 8 featuring Whoopi Goldberg, Jon Bon Jovi, the Dave Matthews Band and Mary J. Blige, are expected to raise about $10 million for Kerry’s coffers. Ticket prices range from $250 to $25,000 a seat.

The two shows are the biggest political outings by the Democratic entertainment set since early 2003 when actors and musicians joined forces in opposition to the imminent U.S.-led war on Iraq...

Is it true you have less wrinkles when you laugh or smile than when you frown? Or did he have his forehead fixed again?

Thanks for all you're doing, RonDog!

Thanks for the kind words, Norm!
While I expect that doodlelady's version of IPWGOP's artwork will be the "star" of this FReep, I also still plan to wear my Saddam mask:

Kerry criticized for French connection [FReeper quoted]
Boston Globe ^ | 4/12/2004 | By Susan Milligan, Globe Staff

WASHINGTON -- As the presidential race gets tighter and nastier, the F-word has increasingly crept into attacks against presumptive Democratic nominee John F. Kerry.

It has made its way into comments by the House majority leader, onto Internet blogs, and onto the Republican National Committee's website. It has shown up on sweatshirts and T-shirts, and been thrown around in columns by nationally known conservative writers.

Kerry, his foes complain, might as well be French.

"The French believe John Kerry has `a certain elegance,' " sneers a contributor [aka Prime Choice] to the FreeRepublic.com website, over unflattering pictures of the Massachusetts senator playing ping-pong, catching a football, and throwing a baseball. "Of course, the French also think Jerry Lewis is a comic genius. Think about it," the satirical posting says...

Doesn't this violate campaign finance laws? I thought the limit was $2000 per person per candidate. I'm confused. Has the FEC been notified of this? Has John McCain been invited to this party?

HEY, NEIL & BARBRA!
WHY NOT SING:
"YOU DON'T BRING ME...
FLIPPER!"

Kerry event FReeped today outside Woodrow Wilson High School in East LA

First of all let me say thank you to all those who were present today for the FReeping; We did a GREAT job, considering we didn't have much time to prepare, and that today is a weekday. I must say, I was somewhat disapointed that "Mr. Kerry" didn't get to see us, but as I'm sure, RonDog, and other FReepers present will tell you, we still got noticed by everyone else.

The highlight of the FReeping was of course "FLIPPER" (the dolphin); This guy stood there in a dolphin suit for some two hours, and let me tell you, IT WAS VERY HOT, that poor guy... RonDog also had the GREAT idea of bringing some "flipper" balloons which got a lot of attention. We had a lot of home made signs, and a few Bush/Cheney signs and stickers provided by Mr.Oscar Gutierrez, who also did a great job talking to some of the media people who were present. The flip-flops were EVERYWHERE, From a Flip-Flop shaped sign, to a bag full of flip-flops for everyone on the back.

Nonsurprisingly, there was some people who were really angry about us "ruining their party", there was some yelling, and more middle fingers than I could count; at the same time, there were some who waved and honked horns, I never get tired of this.

GREAT JOB FReepers!!

P.S.: I will try to get you guys some pictures before the end of the day...

...plus note the effectiveness of the LARGE BLOCK LETTERS on the signs.

Neil "Coming to America" Diamond is a liberal??? Sorry to hear about this.

Recently heard an interview with Streisand's first lover. He turned out gay. This is not a joke. It is however, understandable.

Worse than a liberal, he is a Kerry supporter.

Even Striesand supported the screamer during the primary.

They are joining the "anyone but Bush crowd".

A very dangerous move, IMO. Even for a liberal.

3. Los Angeles concert for John Kerry rescheduled

The spectacular concert for John Kerry with Barbara Streisand, Billy Crystal, Neil Diamond, Willie Nelson and a whole host of Hollywood stars has been RESCHEDULED for Thursday night, June 24th. The concert begins at 8:30 pm. Dinner will be served across the street at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion at 6:30 (doors open at 5:30). Leave [San Diego] by limo at 2:30 and come back later that night with lots of champagne and great memories.

Tickets are $5K/person for the private dinner with Kerry and the "stars" before the concert plus preferred seating at the concert in the front rows, or $2K/person for the concert itself. The money goes to the DNC for the Kerry Victory Fund and will be used directly in the key "battleground" states so, even if you have "maxed" out at the $2,000/person level, this is a completely legal contribution...

Not surprising when I think back to Dukakis' convention theme song.
