More Clinton lies revealed - Roger Porter denies book story
The Washington Post ^ | June 23, 2004 | Richard Leiby

• Bill Clinton's "My Life" was only hours past its official release, and Harvard professor Roger Porter was already getting nastygrams by e-mail yesterday. "Shame," said one person who'd read Clinton's version of a warning supposedly given by Porter, a policy aide in George H.W. Bush's White House, if Clinton were unwise enough to seek the presidency in 1992.

Porter's alleged quote: "The press has to have somebody in every election, and we're going to give them you. . . . We'll spend whatever we have to spend to get whoever we have to get to say whatever they have to say to take you out."

A mild-mannered presidential scholar at the Kennedy School of Government, Porter says there's one problem with Clinton's account of the conversation. "It never happened," he told The Washington Post's John Harris yesterday. "I will attest to you and swear on a stack of Bibles that I never had a conversation with him like that. He's making up the story."

Porter said he did work on a friendly basis with the then-governor of Arkansas on education, and once -- a year before the purported July 1991 conversation -- joked that Clinton should run for president as a Republican because he was too moderate for his own party. Porter, who works with the White House Historical Association, bumped into the former president just last week at the unveiling of Clinton's portrait. There was no mention of the story, which Clinton has been recounting to aides for years. "The fact that Bill Clinton has now repeated this story over and over does not make it true, although I suspect it has now become a legend in his own mind," Porter said.

Unfortunately, this item appears in the "gossip column" and not on the front page, but it is still very important.

I took a class at the Kennedy School from Roger Porter in 1980 and knew him when he worked in the Reagan White House. I can attest that there is no way he would ever have said, or even thought, what Clinton says he did. Porter is simply not a political guy, he is the ultimate "policy wonk." This anecdote alone makes Clinton's entire book suspect. Porter has a lot of friends on both sides of the political aisle and is highly respected. He is the wrong person for Clinton to lie about. What an idiot!

Maybe a few libel suits are in order.

First Bibi, now Porter. As it turns out, this book is a gift that just keeps on giving.

Now we know who Al Franken was referring to in "Liars and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them."

This little tidbit won't live to see the light of any newspaper front page or nightly news report. The last thing the leftist media wants right now is publicity on the fact that the book covers on all of books shipped has a typo.

There should not have been an "F" in the title.

From the Book of Proverbs, Chapter 6:

..16 There are six things which the Lord hates, seven which are an abomination to him;

..17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

..18 a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil,

..19 a false witness who breathes out lies, and a man who sows discord among brothers.

My thoughts exactly. If enough of the people he has lied about get together, a class action suit may be in order.

I saw a couple of excerpts yesterday to which I reacted "there's just no way on earth that that's a true story." The Porter anecdote was one, the Alan Simpson anecdote was another. Just not remotely credible, either one of them...

Hillary, in a recent interview, was asked if she helped Bill with his book. She said no ... other than proof reading portions of it ... she made no real contribution ... except to tell Slick that she didn't remember some of the things he mentioned quite the way he did ... which is probably the understatement of the decade.

Perhaps the book should be renamed, "My Fantasy" because this publication sure isn't based in reality.

It doesn't matter how many lies and distortion are in "My Life," for Clinton supporters will ingest it like the manna from heaven that they would otherwise shun. Believers in Bill Clinton will always believe him even when they know he is telling another untruth.

Well, that pretty much covers it.

I am in Sapulpa Ok this week staying at the home of my angry commie Mommy. She didn't buy the book SO FAR. I read in the Houston Chronicle today that the Clinton book isn't exactly FLYING off the shelves. That gives me HOPE.

The book is titled "MY LIES" isn't it? So what's the problem.

The New York Times reports today that only 7 percent of Americans see John Kerry as a serious man of faith.

It is not flying off shelves anywhere, according to all reports I've heard. Apparently, there were about 2 million presold, but not many sales at the bookstores. I have a feeling that all this book will do, is kill several thousand trees. Later, all those books will only become doorstops.
