On a system that runs Windows XP Home, I am thinking of installing Lavasoft's AdAware. I am running Spybot and am concerned that the two programs will conflict. Can both simultaneously run in the background? Does anyone have any experiences to share concerning this topic?

IMHO, Spy Bot catches more stuff than Adaware.

I've run them both and at the same time. No problems.

There is no problem with running both AdAware and SpyBot. In fact, many people recommend running both, since each searches for certain things that the other does not. I run both programs on all of my machines, have for a couple of years now, and have never had any trouble.

I use them both. Ad-aware whenever the PC boots and Spy Boot once a week. No problem just don't run them at the same time.

I use both and haven't had any problem at all. I don't run them both at the same time though. Sometimes one will catch something the other one doesn't.

we run both, but there is some kind of little bugger my wife can not get rid of. I will have her e-mail me what it is, maybe someone can tell me how to kill it.
She is afraid to do any banking, etc on line due to these hijackers.

I run them both and they don't step on each other too much, and they warn you when they do...
spyware evolves as fast as viruses -- sometimes AdAware catches the new stuff, sometimes Spybot. Both are great pieces of software.

I don't know about Spybot but adaware doesn't "run in the backround" so it shouldn't conflict with anything.
You just run it periodicly to scan your drives and make sure no crap is on there. (Just disable Spybot with cntl-alt-delete if it runs at start up or something and your worried that adaware will detect it as spyware - it shouldn't though)
Plus adaware offers constant updates so it should be enough by itself.

No problem running both. I also run Spyware Blaster, which is recommended by Spybot. And from time to time I run CWShredder, which is not resident in the background.

"we run both, but there is some kind of little bugger my wife can not get rid of."
If the "little bugger" is listed as a DSO Exploit, you should be okay as long as you have all the available patches from Microsoft at their
Windows Update site. I'm not sure of the technical details, but this is something that should be fixed in the next update or release of Spybot. As long as you're properly patched, you can ignore this entry.

Me too. I use both as one finds things the other does not.

AdAware and SpyBot will run together ok. Just about any other spyware or anti-virus program will detect the others.
We've been through an Adtomi Adware infection (the kids downloaded). The virus had been reconfigured to cause even more damage.
We learned that there is NO substitute for Norton Anti-Virus. It's kind of like Big Brother, but it works. I highly recommend going that route.
