Bush commends Issaquah woman for supporting troops

An Issaquah woman who has devoted the last 18 months to supporting the nation's soldiers received President George W. Bush's personal thanks Thursday for her efforts.

Nadine Gulit of Issaquah was awarded the President's Volunteer Service Award from USA Freedom Corps, and was personally recognized by Bush during a brief greeting at Boeing Field where Bush arrived from Spokane.

``It was outstanding,'' Gulit said later. ``I got a big hug -- and a handshake. He is my son's commander in chief.''

Gulit, 73, is being honored for her role as a co-founder of Operation: Support Our Troops, a grassroots group that has organized numerous demonstrations in support of the U.S. soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Way to go Nadine!

This article says she is 73. I hope I am as well preserved as her at that age.

BTTT Yeah Nadine! Here is the organizer of OSOT, (which includes many participating groups, including FRee Republic.) I talked with Nadine at Outpost 122 after her visit with President Bush and got all the details first hand. GW knows that Washington conservatives are doing a fine job and that we can WIN this state if we work hard! I do believe the dark cloud of liberalism is being lifted from this state! In addition, Puget Sound Chapter member American Sovereignty Defender was able to videotape Air Force One and President Bush as he left Boeing Field. Thanks AFD! The Spokane Chapter leader, waRNmother.armyboots organized her members for a rally as well. Kudos to all who participated :)

Nadine is not a FReeper, but she is friends with yours truly (and all the others ;) and knows all about us. FRee Republic is well represented at all OSOT events.

Dear Nadine Gulit and Sheryl Sheaffer and the other 13 grassrooters!

Be very proud, you did make a difference! This grows and grows!

This is what has to be done when we have a media like we do. For your grandson and son, fighting in Afghanistan for our freedom and saftey, to have to write home for support shames the media

When Scott Sheaffer wrote home to his mom and saying the only images he and the other soldiers saw from home were antiwar protests Scott said "Mom, where are you guys?" The world changed! Thank you!
