I think Maureen has a daughter; I thought I saw her at the funeral with her ex-husband and his fiance; I could be wrong.

dang, they let lawyers on a jury?

From my understanding, my being empaneled is the Rosetta Stone of jury duty stories. First of all, I live in New Orleans, which should explain most of the situation. These morons used up all of their peremptory challenges and I was one of the last names in the jury pool. The judge had allowed a really weak challenge for cause on another juror prior to my selection and voir dire. I was challenged for cause (especially since I knew 3 of the 6 lawyers on the case) but when the judge saw what was left in the pool, my week was shot. No way was I being excused for cause.

I pled hardship but that fell on deaf ears as well.

To me it reads like Ron knew him when. I recall some folks like that in my family's circle.

It may sound that way, but he didn't "know him when". Perhaps you'll agree he shouldn't speak as if he did.

He himself says he met him during his father's presidency but doesn't remember it. He says he only knows it because his wife says she remembers and she didn't like him.

See the post at #85:

Reagan says he doesn't have anything personal against Bush. He met him only once, at a White House event during the Reagan presidency. "At least my wife insists we did -- he left absolutely no impression on me. But Doria remembers him very negatively -- I can't repeat what she said about him, I'd rather not use profanity.

I am reading a biography that says that RR's children haven't given him any descendants. I think Mike has two children, so the author must have meant strictly biological grandchildren when he made the remark about 'no descendants.'

I see no evidence Ron Reagan ever sought to follow in his father's footsteps

How could he follow in this father's footsteps, his father didn't mince along, he had a manly stride. period

Yes, Reagan wanted to serve overseas but had bad vision. He did a good job in what he was assigned stateside.

I know Maureen had a daughter that was adopted from Uganda,I think in 1993 or 94.

From her obit posted above.

Maureen Reagan had battled skin cancer since 1996 and learned last month the tumors had spread to her brain. She is survived by her husband, Dennis Revell, and her 16-year-old daughter, Rita.

Seems like someone told me her daughter was adopted--don't know if that's true or not. I'm thinking yes because in the obit it says she was 60 and the daughter 16. She could have had a daughter at 44 but most likely not.

And based on the political nature of his job, it's not too hard to imagine him entering politics.

I read something recently that said if young Ron wanted to becfome involved in politics the dems here in WA state would be thrilled to have him actively involved. The state party and Ron are just about equally far left as far as I can see.

. I feel like I just told everyone I love Liberals with the way I'm getting jumped on :(

No, you're being jumped on for parsing the whole paragraph. The point being made was ronnieroonie was not the oldest son of RWR and you wanted to show ONLY RWR and Nancy's offspring could be considered the oldest son, etc. That is why the uptight responses. Just stay on subject and no problems.

BTW, most of us realize the work that goes into producing a thesis, been there, done that.

If you are interested, there is a great book about Ronald Reagan. It is a bit of a slow read, but fascinating none the less.
It is called RONALD REAGAN An American Life (The Autobiography)
I hope you enjoy it.
Have a great night.
:)

Great post.
There's a lot of info in there that I was not aware of. Perhaps his "psychologist" wife ought to go on Dateline and explain how Ron's mental anguish over his father's shame and embarrassment at his ballet career led him to become a flaming liberal.

After this, I will never post again, because if you are what repersents a FREEPER, and onyx is included, I want nothing to do with this...
How sad, I say what I know and I get JUMPED on, and you and onyx can say what you want and no one slams you, like the two of you did me... pretty crappy... If I'm the only one who thinks this, please, send me a post, if not... let me know too, also, if how I am being spoken to by you and Onyx is normal, let me know and I'll politely bow out. I am in total disbelief at how mean the two of you have treated me. NOTHING I said was mean, and if you would have given me the opportunity to become a productive part of this community, you would have learned that, and would have been pleasantly surprised.
Thanks, you guys made my night a real treat.

Oh please.
I said NOTHING mean to you.
NO personal attacks.

YOU are the one who attempted
to tell me of your superiority;
your senior thesis and your professors'
agreement with your rather foolish
assertion that the youngest child,
who is also the only male, can be
properly called the "eldest son."

YOU first asserted that Michael didn't
enter into the mix, because he's adopted.
That was your first error.
RWR never separated Michael from his biological
children, so why did you?

IF I had personally attacked you,
I would apologize, but no apology
whatsoever is due from me to you.

guess I'll have to pin my hopes on showing up in fatigues with some kind of inflammatory t-shirt.

Don't drink too much, tomorrow may be REALLY painful sporting a hangover:)

When I first heard Ron's remarks live I got an uncomfortable feeling but decided to give the grieving son the benefit of the doubt - - NO WAY would Reagan's own son pull a Wellstone / Democrat moment and use HIS FATHER'S FUNERAL to push a political agenda and take a SLAP at a sitting President of the United States, a man he claims he doesn't even remember ever meeting. At his father's nationally televised FUNERAL!

It looks like I was wrong.
Ron Jr. is indeed a scumbag. What a shame.

I sincerely trust that Michael will not do that.

I hope that unless he is commissioned by Nancy he will pray hard, listen harder for wisdom and stuff it so as not to risk her ire.

May the Lord give him favor.

He was a pundit on MSNBC during the dem primary this past winter/early spring and made some anti-Bush comments then.

What were the campaigns Ron worked on? What offices did he hold? What books did he write about politics? Oh yeah, he doesn't *have* even minimal political experience, other than being Reagan's son. And he complains about W getting ahead due to family connections!
