I have four children in three different schools. In the past week I have talked to a number of teachers and administrators about different issues pertaining to next semester. I have been told three times so far that the school cannot manage A or B anymore becasue Individual Student Goals(or whatever the technical name is) cannot be honored because of the NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND ACT. One called it Bush's NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND. Tell me, is this a national trend? Those of you with children in public schools, are you hearing that the Bush plan is hurting your child? Or otherss?
You keep focusing on the money. As I said it's an education issue with me. I don't believe that LD kids enhance the other's education. In fact, I believe it's just the opposite.
What is the last name of the super of schools in Memphis? Is it Johnson?

A building would have to be constructed with handicap access and equipment. In addition, the school would need to bus the children to the school. If the ride was very long, the bus would need 1 or more attendants to handle possible medical emergencies--such as a child pulling out an IV or fainting, or choking. Once they got to your warehouse, they would need rooms for different age groups and stimulating activities, again, age and ability appropriate. The warehouse would need to have several adults available for emergencies or violent outbursts. How many? dunno. You are the one with all the answers.
Your way would be absolutely over-the-top expensive.
Honey, a child with an IV belongs at home or in a nursing home.
They dont need any more activities than basic care and games and the activities of daily living. The facility would have more than enough people to manage outbursts. And hopefully the violent children would be well medicated.
If you have a child that is on an IEP then they can opt out of testing. If that happens the school is not penalized.
You are correct that some students will never read or write because of disabilities.
I have a daughter with brain damage. So far, she is doing okay in school. She just passed 1st grade. She's great in math, but she needs to improve in reading and writing. She has severe speech problems, and she is reading at about the same level as she speaks. She can't say many multi-syllable words, and I wonder how she will read them if she can't say them.

In our area of the world classroom disruption is so profound that parents are pulling their children.
I was talking to a friend of mine and commenting how my kids had finals ... she had not realized that in catholic schools they have finals EVERY year .. and asked why would they do that
I had to explain to her it's just a review of what they learned thru the year to make sure they learned and remembered before passes to the next grade
That totally blew her away

It won't stop. It will get worse and worse as more and more medically fragile children survive traumatic births.

You do not appear to understand what it takes to educate this type of child. Hopefully you will never have to find out as you seem to lack the empathy and patience needed.

yes...in my private school, we give the kids finals EVERY TERM. They have three finals in each class throughout the year, except for term courses.
BTW, one of the reasons it's so important that Freepers know about how they bash Bush every chance at my school, is that I am in certification classes. Most of these kids are fresh out of college, or not long out. They are about to become new teachers...that tells you what your kids new teachers are going to be like...

Whew! How is a students education enhanced by sitting around while the teacher is forced to focus on the LD student?
a clarification...they bash Bush at the school I am getting certified at, NOT the one where I teach. The majority of the faculty at my school probably lean Bush...they stay politely non-political.
In the past, many people thought that autistic children could not be taught. Well, that has been proven wrong. Many autistic children function very well in school.

Her school has a special day class for high functioning kids with problems. My daughters' class included these kids in at math time. They were their math buddies. It was great for the normal kids, and it was great for the special needs kids. The special needs kids need normal kids around them so that they have models of normal behavior.
Even severely retarded kids can be taught so much. They need more than just daycare, they need someone to really help them.
The Right ceded academia and labor to the Left....and we and our children are paying a heavy price as a result.
Have you ever read any of the Montessori books? Maria Montessorr would write about teaching children that literally had half a functioning brain and the advances they were able to make in learning.
