In his interview with CBS newsman Dan Rather set for broadcast on Sunday, ex-President Bill Clinton flatly contradicts his earlier recorded confession that Sudan offered to arrest Osama bin Laden and hand him over to the U.S., calling reports of such an offer "bull."
"On the accusation that he had opportunities to get Osama bin Laden, had opportunities to have him delivered by the Sudanese, he said, 'absolutely, flatly untrue,' describing it as 'bull,'" Rather tells the Washington Post on Thursday.
In Feb. 2002, however, Mr. Clinton clearly admitted that the Sudanese offer had indeed taken place. And that he turned it down.
"Mr. bin Laden used to live in Sudan," Clinton told the Long Island Association on Feb. 15, 2002.
"He was expelled from Saudi Arabia in 1991, then he went to Sudan. And we'd been hearing that the Sudanese wanted America to start dealing with them again.
"They released him. At the time, 1996, he had committed no crime against America so I did not bring him here because we had no basis on which to hold him, though we knew he wanted to commit crimes against America.
"So I pleaded with the Saudis to take him, 'cause they could have. But they thought it was a hot potato and they didn't and that's how he wound up in Afghanistan."
On Thursday morning, MewsMax.com offered CBS's "60 Minutes" a copy of its exclusive recording of Clinton's remarks.
But it's not clear whether the network will be willing to embarrass the ex-president by airing smoking gun proof that his current claims about the bin Laden offer are false.
Listen to NewsMax.com's exclusive recording of Bill Clinton admitting that he let bin Laden go free.
So Slick, in other words you turned down the offer of OBL. That's "no bull".
Amen. Reagan's Class....Bush's Class....they have been highlighted so much these last two weeks that the Class-LESS Clintons stand out like tumors.
Just a touch of sarcasm there.
Clinton is a mentally and spiritually sick human being.
Has been since childhood. Until he admits he needs help he'll never change.
He could kill a person on the street and justify it TO HIMSELF and block out the fact that everyone else can see the truth...he'll NEVER admit his wrongdoing's...
So Carl,
Did 60 minutes contact you for that tape so they can really do that hard hitting journalism they're famous for?
I think Dan Rather's kneepads telegraphs the answer to that one...
Did Dan-o ask Bubba about the kickbacks from the Red Chinese ?
After seeing Clinton in action for 12 years, I'm now convinced that his impeachment had nothing to do with the formal charges that were brought against him by the House of Representatives.
And one must assume that Rather being the superb and unbiased journalist that he is did a follow up question to Clinton asking him to explain his own contradictory statements....I mean SURELY he did that being the pillar of journalistic integrity that he is. /niavete
The idiot is on tape saying he took a pass on Bin Ladin and you can bet that tape will be played more times then Dean's scream was
Clinton stepped in it big time
I've always been struck by his propensity to use that term, "bull".
He did it several times during his time in office and it always sounded petulant, childish and foolish coming from one who was supposed to inhabit the office of the Presidency of the United States.
You, sir are an Internet god.
He does that every day.
A man died and went to heaven. As he stood in front of St. Peter at the Pearly Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him. He asked, "What are all those clocks?"
St. Peter answered, "Those are Lie-Clocks. Everyone on Earth has a Lie-Clock. Every time you lie the hands on your clock will move."
"Oh," said the man, "whose clock is that?" "That's Mother Teresa's. The hands have never moved, indicating that she never told a lie."
"Incredible," said the man. "And whose clock is that one?" St. Peter responded, "That's George W. Bush's clock. The hands have moved twice, telling us that Dubya has told only two lies in his entire life."
"Where's Bill Clinton's clock?" asked the man.
"Clinton's clock is in Jesus' office. He's using it as a ceiling fan."
Depends on what the meaning of "turned down" is.
"I turned down the sudanese not Bin Laden'
Funny, I seem to remember him saying, on a TV interview no less, "We had nothing to hold him on". So if that`s not considered "turning him down" what would Bubba call it then? Oh yes, it all depends on the meaning of the words "turn him down".
