$40 Reagan Bill, Reagan Forty dollar bill

Posted on 06/15/2004 3:44:35 PM PDT by fishtank

A caller to Savage suggested a new $40 bill with Reagan's portrait.

No one here has talked about this. I kind of like the idea: $40 for the 40th President.

That way we don't have to retire any current bills.

A decent Dollar coin is way overdue. I think putting that feminist on it a few years ago killed the idea (although the press always says people didn't like it because it looked like a quarter).

Putting Sacagewea on it, and making it gold was cool, but when they released the Sacagewea dollar, they re-relesased the feminazi dollar, so neither went anywhere.

Put Reagan on a dollar coin, and melt all the others down. It would soon be one of the most circulated currencies, which is why they put the most prominent people on the smaller denominations.

Amen. I remember seeing $500 and $1000 notes as a kid, although I never owned one. I would like $500 denomination bills, for the reason you stated....it's a pain to carry a stack of C notes when you're going to buy something slightly expensive for cash.

I think it's a stupid idea.
Who wants a $40 bill when people generally don't like carrying bills larger than $20?

And for those who do, who would want a $40 when there's a perfectly good $50?

I say replace Andrew JackASS with Reagan on the $20 and you all can just carry two.

I like even better the idea of letting Ronald Reagan rest in peace-instead of trying to make his death the second -longest running Republican Party commercial in history.

( I'm assuming Abraham Lincoln took the first place honors.)

There are parts of the Reagan legacy I don't remember fondly : Catsup being designated as a "vegetable"; Lebanon: with US Marines being used for daily target practice by 4 separately hateful factions, and being murdered in their sleep by a bomb blast; the Iran/Contra mess in which "mistakes were made".

I think the whole idea of a further memorial should be packed away with the lava lamps - "for later examination."

"Catsup being designated as a 'vegetable'"

WTF is "catsup"? Are you trying to avoid associating the Ketchup controversy with Mrs. Heinz-Kerry for some reason?

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

The nation stood up and saluted Regan because we were sick of the Commies going on a revenge attack because of the HUAC testimonies.

Ketchup as a vegetable? My kids think it is.

Just as long as we all agree.

$20 bill it is.

How do we get this done? Write/call/fax/email the congresscritters?

I wish we had $500 bills. I hate going on a long trip and have a large stack of $100.

Do you like hearing,"I'm sorry we can't break that large a'bill"?

In honor of Reagan, why don't we just ELIMINATE one of the denominations?

I agree: $500 is a good next step for a larger bill.
I'm using $100's more and more, with inflation $500 would be great in a few years, when you need $200+ to fill up.
I filled a suburban and a boat at the peak and spent $140+.

BTW: Remember the $10,000 BILL is reserved for Hillary..

A $40 bill really is a stupid idea. Replacing Jackson seems like the best idea, but it will never happen, because Jackson, who murdered a man in a duel, and who was a slaveowner, was, fittingly enough, a Democrat.

A $40 might be ATM-friendly since they are already geared (figuratively) toward multiples of $20. I'd hate to see us back away from any of the founding fathers, presidents or not, but if someone must be displaced, then Grant would be the one to go.

My objection was the similarity to the quarter, but others may have other objections. Basically, I think we're pretty stuck on what we have. We're all used to it and most of us hate change. I understand a rational argument to getting rid of pennies but I don't think that'll happen. There would be incredible amounts of fuss over that. The Kennedy Half-dollar kind of hung around for years and didn't get used much.

When I was a youngster and on into my teens, I saw 500's & 1000's all the time, and on a few occasions even had a 5000 and a 10,000 dollar bill in my hand. My father was prone to carry his life savings in his pocket. I went with him to buy a new house for my mother and he paid 15000 cash. With two bills. I will never forget it!

My ATM offers me a "fast cash" option of $40. One bill instead of two works for me, although my fondest wish would be to see President Reagan on Mt. Rushmore.

Why? Do you think Reagan sneaked one in Teresa Heinz?

Just for the record, the ketchup as formulated for the public schools, by law, had so many vitamins and minerals added to it it was, by weight, more nutritious than many fresh vegetables.

It's one of those examples of the press running with a story that sounded ridiculous.

Take USELESS Grant off the $50. He was a rotten President.

I also think its inappropriate to honor someone who slaughtered so many Americans-even in the line of duty.
