President Bush certainly didn't score any points with his conservative base on Monday when he praised Bill Clinton to the hilt during the unveiling of the impeached president's White House portrait.
"President Bush was more laudatory and more passionate about Bill Clinton than he was about President Reagan [during Friday's memorial service]," contended nationally syndicated radio host Michael Savage Monday night.
When Bush spoke about Reagan, said Savage, "we got empty homilies. We got less than empty homilies - we got a Mr. Rogers job."
But at the Clinton portrait ceremony, Savage said, "Today we actually got a passionate President Bush. He was almost animated to be around Bill Clinton. The guy looked happy."
Though the Bush-Clinton lovefest left many of the president's fans fuming, Mr. Clinton's obvious enjoyment of Bush's kind words also raised eyebrows inside Sen. John Kerry presidential campaign, which only 24-hours earlier had been assured that Clinton would come out swinging this week against the White House.
"Maybe [Bush and Clinton] have a mutual interest in a Democrat not winning this November," said MSNBC host Chris Matthews, noting that a Kerry loss would pave the way for Mrs. Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign.

Michael Savage is an idiot. There's a bit of a difference in the tone you take when speaking at a funeral than at a portrait ceremony.
Bush also listed a number of accomplishments Reagan had and what a good man he was and offered condolensces to the family. It was a funeral, Mr. Savage.
Aside from that, did you hear Bush laud any accomplishments of Clinton? All I heard were comments about how Clinton "obviously loved" being President. That's true. Bush was being polite to a guest in the White House. Nothing more, nothing less.
Savage has certainly shown his true colors lately. He is obviously a fake, in this for the fame and money. I turned him off and he is staying off.
What President Bush did was act like a gentleman, honor his office, and showed the world how a leader should behave. The conservatives who are upset about this are proving the left right about being mean spirited. They are the ones who should be ashamed of their behavior.
I dislike Clinton as much as they do, but President Bush should NOT act like he does! These same people who praised President Reagan last week for being a gentleman, are bashing this President for doing the same thing?
I have the feeling some conservatives wouldn't be happy unless they had a president with the political instincts of Godzilla.

It appears you are just making additions to what the President said to tell 'the whole story.' What you have quoted shows only generalities...it's literally nothing. Your comments demonstrate nothing to indicate the President 'lied' as you have claimed.

Were the Clintons "great parents"?
Has the passage of time highlighted Clinton's strengths?
Did Clinton show great compassion for people in need?
Did Americans (that means you) know that Clinton was working hard to bring a better day closer?
Is HRC an extraordinary person?
Has HRC proven herself more equal to the challenge of being a Senator?
Can Clinton today be even prouder of decades of service, and effort, and perseverance?
You'll have to twist if you're going to answer "yes" to any of those questions.
And if you answer "no" even to one, here's the next question:
Did President Bush know it was a false statement?
If you answer "no," then he is at least dumber than you or I.
If you answer "yes," then he lied.
