According to AP:

"The mahogany casket was sealed within a bronze-lined vault, seven feet underground inside the crypt, which also includes space for Mrs. Reagan's final resting place. Workers covered the crypt with earth and a concrete pathway."

After Carter conceded, my mom & I went on a cruise up and down Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Milwaukee, yelling "Landslide!" out of the car windows every few blocks. It was glorious!

What a wonderful story. What were the reactions to your yelling? I am fascinated by the great Reagan story. I could not vote for him, but I love to hear such first person accounts of that night in 1980 and the one in 1984 from people like you.

I had just graduated from college in Dec. 1979 and went to work for Ronald Reagan's campaign as a volunteer. I worked at phone banks in the evening to get out the vote and attended many rallies around the area.

There was a feeling of despair in this great nation and I was proud to have registered many people who had never voted before so they could cast their first vote for Ronald Wilson Reagan.

On election night, I went to the GOP headquaters and there was a party like no other!!! The biggest cheers besides the Pres election, was when a lib Senator would get the boot!! When the networks would announce another lib going down people cheered like never before. What a great election and what a great victory!!!

I'm not sure HOW the actual burial took place, but local news has it occurring around 3-3:30 a.m. Saturday.

A long time...

Wolfstar, thanks for the thread. Wouldn't it be GREAT if the Library drew as many if not more than Disneyland this summer? I know....I know.....

WONDERFUL link in #11.

I recommend that everyone check it out. Particularly follow the various links in the Museum Store ... some fantastic items there, including collectibles, games and toys for kids, jewelry, clothing, etc.

The Pacific is compelling in a way the Atlantic is not, although I couldn't begin to explain why.

You feel the same way as I do.

I thought Nancy was going to be buried at his side when her time comes.... perhaps it's easier than it looks, but how are they going to move that slab without damaging everything?

Heavy equipment. No problem.

They planned everything. Note the heavy duty railing around the sight. It wasn't there on Friday.

It seemed to me the slab was there before the President was interred so they had to remove it to place his casket into its resting place and then return it to its current position. I imagine some heavy machinery was used but if I am right it can be done and will only have to be done once again.

Sag probably intends to sell it for auction a piece at a time for big money.
