This conversation took place today at the Springfield, PA Borders Books:
Metrosexual Clerk: Can I help you?
Libertarian4Bush: Yes, I have a couple questions. First, do you have any of the books on this list [a relative's pre-college reading list], or are there any similar books you could recommend?
Metrosexual Clerk (without even looking): Well, we have Bill Clinton's new book.
Libertarian4Bush: No no - I mean, fiction is fine, but I'm looking for actual AUTHORS.
Metrosexual Clerk : Well, obviously, you have an agenda.
Libertarian4Bush: No, I would just rather not be subjected to yours.
Metrosexual Clerk : What was your other question?
Libertarian4Bush: Well, I was looking to pick up a Neopet plushy for someone, but I think I'll buy it somewhere else instead.
Metrosexual Clerk : Sir, I-
Libertarian4Bush: Sorry, too late. Limited Too is up the street, and they won't whore themselves to peddle the lies of an attention-starved sociopath.
Neopet plushy
What the heck is that?
My family and I got thrown out of a Borders, a week ago, when I asked to speak to a manager, was not satified, and asked to speak to THEIR manager. They refused, and told me to call a 1-800 number. I told them that I was not satisfied with her answer, and would not be cowed by a manager, get your boss on the phone. . . she refused, asked me to leave the store, and said she'd call the police. . .
The issue: the vaguely-female clerk insulted me, claiming that only "inadequate" men with "p*nis envy" read military or science-fiction books, and a MILITARY SF book (John Ringo / Michael Z. Williamson's "The Hero") meant that I "must want to oppress women, children, and the poor."
The manager said "well, this is a bookstore, we allow free speech here". . .
Needless to say, I'll never shop at Borders again. . .
The Death of a Metrosexual Salesman.
Gee wiz..talk about spewing bs. Did you file a written complaint?
I always buy my conservative reading at Borders, partly to smirk at the angry clerks ringing up my purchase.
You should have told the clerk that the only women who read or write the feminist bilge she obviously prefers are the ones that aren't getting anything in the sack, if you know what I mean.
When I voiced this theory about feminists during a religion class at my private, all-female undergrad college, I literally had classmates wanting me to be thrown out of the class. Guess I struck a nerve. So much for free speech, though.
Definitely call the Corporate headquarters and complain.
Those conversations are hilarious! You both deserve medals for standing up to the twirpy clerks!
Good for you! Big box bookstores. Sigh. It's only gonna get worse. I've had this discussion with a number of B&Ns. Check out Leonard Riggio's FEC records and that should explain a lot. Haven't found anything yet for the big cheese of Borders Group, Inc, one Gregory P. Josefowicz.
Wow maybe the Borders I go to regularly are different. The conservative books are always pretty prominently displayed. The only complaint I ever made was about the bathrooms *lol*
Our local Borders Books is terrible. I can never find the books I'm looking for, but the liberal crap is everywhere. Once I discovered how much better Barnes & Noble was -- they have the liberal and conservative selections side by side and they even give an educators discount to homeschoolers -- I dumped Borders for good. Only stepped in there again to waste a gift certificate (given by a liberal psychologist nutcase).
It's also always fun to cover up their liberal displays with conservative leaning books.
Hmmmm? They always forget that free speech doesn't require that I listen .. I never shop at Borders .. period!
It's unfortunate that the last time I went to the Borders below the WTC, I had a pretty unpleasant experience.
I still have a bookmark that I took from that store from the last book I purchased...depressing to think about it now.
Well now it's pretty clean but it used to foul. I applied for a job there but they turned me down *lol*
I notice the same thing at Tower Records. They now put anti-Bush books on the checkout counter. I thought they were a MUSIC and DVD store. But of course, the nose-ringed clerks just can't seem to resist pushing their leftist agenda. So I guess I'll get my DVD's off Amazon too for now on.
