INVESTIGATORS OF THE 3/11 TERRORIST ATTACK ON Spain have found that the leader of the radical Islamic cell was a drug dealer who traded a load of hashish for the explosives that killed 191 people. Spanish authorities are finding that the al-Qaeda-related terrorists are also tangled up in organized crime, the underworld of robbery, counterfeiting, fraud, drug dealing, and murder.
How can that be? A Muslim who steals is to have his hand cut off. Islam forbids the use of drugs. How can there be an alliance between fundamentalist Islam and organized crime?
The answer, reports Sebastian Rotella of the Los Angeles Times, is the existence of a particular Islamic sect: the Takfirs.
Nearly all of today's radical Islamic groups trace their lineage to the Muslim Brotherhood, which was founded in the 1960s. One offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood was an order called the Takfir wal Hijra. The name means "Excommunication and Exile." Outwardly, members appear to be excommunicated from Islam, conforming to Western ways and even Western vices. But inwardly, they are devout Muslims in exile in a strange land. This split between their outward behavior and their inner piety is justified, according to Takfir theology, as a tactic of jihad.
"Takfiris accept drinking and vice and encourage short hair, fashionable dress, and an outwardly Western lifestyle as a holy warrior's disguise against detection," explains Mr. Rotella. "In the Takfir creed of outward conformity and internal exile, crime is a means of waging war against the West."
The 9/11 terrorists fit the Takfir profile: They were clean-cut, wore Western clothing, and spent the days before their "martyrdom" drinking in strip clubs and receiving lap dances.
The biggest breeding ground for Takfiri is the underworld of Northern Africa and Europe, with its vast underclass of Muslim immigrants. The major center of Takfiri evangelism, if one can call it that, is prison.
Mr. Rotella quotes De Bousquet de Florian, the French intelligence chief: "Crime that was once practiced with no trace of an Islamic reference, once they have converted, rather naturally acquires an objective, a justification, a religious legitimization. Because the base of Takfir doctrine explains that crime can be committed for the good of the cause."
Takfir is spreading beyond the European immigrant community. Reportedly, a leader of the Mafia in Naples has converted to Islam. According to an Italian prosecutor, he has set up an operation with terrorists trading arms for drugs.
Criminals are human beings. They may feel plagued by guilt. A Christian chaplain can offer them Christ's forgiveness for what they have done and usher them into a new life in the gospel. A Takfir imam can offer them a redemption that allows them to remain criminals. Crime even can become a means of redemption.
According to Islamand this is orthodox Islam, not just this particular sectafter death a person's deeds are weighed in a balance: Those whose evil deeds outweigh the good deeds they performed in their lives are thrown into hell. If the good deeds outweigh the evil deeds, the person will be accepted into paradise. But it is impossible to know whether one's deeds are sufficient for salvation.
But those who wage jihad, holy war, against non-Muslims can have their sins forgiven. Dying as a "martyr" while killing the enemies of Allah is about the only way a person can be assured of going to paradise.
For a criminal weighed down by his bad deeds, knowing that he faces certain damnation, the gospel of jihad will appear as very good news indeed. And he doesn't even have to change his ways. Rather, he can feel self-righteous, even as he retains his vices, giving his life meaning as he strikes at the infidels by stealing from them, selling them drugs, or blowing them up.
Takfir shows how a legalistic religion can be twisted to justify sin. It is reminiscent of the thugee, the Hindu sect that committed murder as a sacrifice to the god Kali, from which we get the word thug. Takfir may have a direct relationship to the hashishiyyin, the Muslim sect that would consume hashish as a prelude to the murder of enemy leaders, from which we get the word assassin.
Postmodernists, relativists, and ecumenical types who believe that all the world's religions are essentially the same and all equally beneficial should consider the Takfirs. Before the Takfirs get hold of them.
Spanish authorities are finding that the al-Qaeda-related terrorists are also tangled up in organized crime, the underworld of robbery, counterfeiting, fraud, drug dealing, and murder. How can that be?
Because these people really have no religion. They make up their own just like John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, and Nancy Pelosi. If the rules dont suit them they make up their own. Your religion says No abortions , but you want to get the anti life vote, you change that rule to suit yourself. The end justifies the means. Al Quaeda is just a Mafia thats larger than any we have seen so far, The Mullahs are the Godfathers and the ignorant do their kiling for them.
The Islamic attitude toward drugs is quite peculiar, since people in many Islamic countries spend their day more or less stoned on one or another substance, from qat to pot, and heroin addiction is a major problem in Iran. So I don't really think their attitude is particularly relevant.
But what is dangerous is that they have increasingly been making use of low-level criminals (bootleg CD-sellers, phone card forgers, cigarette smugglers, etc.) both for financing and as operatives, knowingly or not. In a way, of course, this could be their undoing, since petty criminals are known for their loose lips and frequent blunders that land them in jail. It also indicates that we are having some success in cutting off some of their other funding and recruitment sources.
This reminds me of the far left communists/revolutaries of the 60's, where they believed that criminals in jail were actually fellow revolutionaries. That's why they spent so much time in jails and supporting the Black Panthers.
They viewed crime as rebellion against orthodox society - a person stealing, or killing, or attacking the police was actually protesting violently against the establishment.
I can't resist the dig - and these were the people John Kerry allied himself with in many ways, although he wouldn't admit it know. They certainly attended the same demonstrations together, the pig.
Well geee, if we just legalize and tax all drugs, there will never be any chance that terrorists will use them to get funding to kill us all! </sarcasm>
not surprised .... Mo' was the original gangster whose rap is the Koran
He who disbelieves in Allah after his belief in Him, (is the liar) except he who is compelled while his heart remains steadfast with the faith (has nothing worry). But who opens his breast for infidelity; on these is wrath of Allah, and for them is a great torment.
--Quran, Surah 16 (an‑Nahl), verse 100
This verse of the Quran refers to the incident when 'Ammar bin Yasir (May Allah be pleased with both) had to utter some words against Islam to save himself from the Quraishite infidels.
The Qur'an clearly allows hiding one 's true faith when one is in danger of one's life. This rule is called taqiyah.
Question 1: What is the meaning of "Taqiyah"?
Answer: Its literal meaning is to safeguard; to defend; to fear; piety (because it saves one from the displeasure of Allah).
Question 2: What is its significance in Islamic terminology?
Answer: In Islamic terminology it means "to save life, honour. or property (either one's own or of other believers) by hiding one's belief or religion".
I imagine the rule would apply in a lesser way to a Muslim who hides his jihad sympathies.

Among followers of the different schools of Islam, Shi'ites are well known for their practice of taqiyah. In case of danger they dissimulate their religion and hide their particular religious and ritual practices from their opponents.
The sources upon which the Shi'ites base themselves in this question include the following verse of the Holy Quran: "Let not the believers take disbelievers for their friends in preference to believers. Whoso doeth that hath no connection with Allah unless (it be) that ye but guard yourselves against them [tattaqu minhum. from the same root as taqiyah], taking (as it were) security [tuqatan. again from the same root as taqiyah]. Allah biddeth you beware (only) of Himself. Unto Allah is the journeying" (III, 28). As is clear from this sacred verse, God, the,Most Exalted, forbids with the utmost emphasis wilayah (meaning in this case friend- ship and amity to the extent that it affects one's life) with un- believers and orders man to be wary and have fear in such a situation.
In another place He says, "Whoso disbelieveth in Allah after his belief-save him who is forced thereto and whose heart is still content with Faith-but whoso findeth ease in disbelief: On them is wrath from Allah. Theirs will be an awful doom" (Quran, XVI, 106). As mentioned in both Sunni and Shi'ite sources this verse was revealed concerning `Ammar ibn Yasir. After the migration (hijrah) of the Prophet the infidels of Mecca imprisoned some of the Muslims of that city and tortured them, forcing them to leave Islam and to return to their former religion of idolatry. Included in this group who were tortured were Ammar and his father and mother. Ammar's parents refused to turn away from Islam and died under torture. But Ammar. in order to escape torture and death, outwardly left Islam and accepted idol worship, thereby escaping from danger. Having become free, he left Mecca secretly for Medina. In Medina he went before the Holy Prophet-upon whom be blessings and peace--and in a state of penitence and distress concerning what he had done asked the Prophet if by acting as he did he had fallen outside the sacred precinct of religion. The Prophet said that his duty was what he had accomplished. The above verse was then revealed.
The two verses cited above were revealed concerning particular cases but their meaning is such that they embrace all situations in which the outward expression of doctrinal belief and religious practice might bring about a dangerous situation. Besides these verses, there exist many traditions from the members of the Household of the Prophet ordering taqiyah when there is fear of danger.
Some have criticized Shi'ism by saying that to employ the practice of taqiyah in religion is opposed to the virtues of courage and bravery. The least amount of thought about this accusation will bring to light its invalidity, for taqiyah must be practiced in a situation where man faces a danger which he cannot resist and against which he cannot fight. Resistance to such a danger and failure to practice taqiyah in such circumstances shows rashness and foolhardiness. not courage and bravery. The qualities of courage and bravery can be applied only when there is at least the possibility of success in man's efforts. But before a definite or probable danger against which there is no possibility of victory throwing oneself before a cannon that is being fired or lying down on the tracks before an onrushing train-any action of this kind is nothing but a form of madness contrary to logic and common sense. Therefore, we can summarize by saying that taqiyah must be practiced only when there is a definite danger which cannot be avoided and against which there is no hope of a successful strug gle and victory.
The exact extent of danger which would make permissible the practice of taqiyah has been debated among different mujtahids of Shi'ism. In our view, the practice of taqiyah is permitted if there is definite danger facing one's own life or the life of one's family, or the possibility of the loss of the honor and virtue of one's wife or of other female members of the family,or the danger of the loss of one's material belongings to such an extent as to cause complete destitution and prevent a man from being able to continue to support himself and his family. In any case, prudence and the avoidance of definite or probable danger which cannot be averted is a general law of logic accepted by all people and applied by men in all the different phases of their lives.
I understand that is true, and is why the Taliban continued to allow opium and hashish to be exported but severely punnished users. Puts the lie to the press's claim that defeating the Taliban restored the opium trade.
They are following the essence of Islam. In Islam, kindness, generousity, and mercy are exclusively restricted to fellow Muslims. All others are enemies, against whom anything is permitted.
Hadith Volume 4, Book 52, Number 256:
Narrated As-Sab bin Jaththama:The Prophet passed by me at a place called Al-Abwa or Waddan, and was asked whether it was permissible to attack the pagan warriors at night with the probability of exposing their women and children to danger. The Prophet replied, "They (i.e. women and children) are from them (i.e. pagans)." I also heard the Prophet saying, "The institution of Hima [sanctuary; inviolate zone] is invalid except for Allah and His Apostle."
[ translation: the women and children of infidels are acceptable "collateral damage". A Muslim has no need to avoid killing them while attacking infidels (as the Palestinian suicide bombers demonstrate repeatedly) ]
Islam- a religion for criminals. Confirms all of my negative stereotypes.

And that brings us to the slammmie philosophy of taqiyya -- lying to infidels is not a sin.
The Wahhabi apostasy has made a mockery of the religion it pretends to draw its inspiration from, and by bully techniques, tries to draw in all the other individuals that have chosen or been born into Islam. So no matter how many times the West and its leaders try to distinguish between the thugs and fascists that hide behind Islam, and the reverent practitioners of that religion, ALL Muslims feel persecuted.
The West cannot impose changes within Islam. But we can, and eventually must, put enough external pressure on the extremists, so that the vast majority of Muslims see and act on the need for reform.
The Jihadists bring great shame and darkness upon all the rest of Islam. If the great bulk of the Muslims want to be free of them, first they have to let the rest of the world know.
All people of Italy, or even all people of Sicily, are not equally admiring of the Mafia. But for many years, they feared to act to remove them. The Mafia were known to react most brutally to threats to their continued existence.
The Jihadists will be similarly intransigent.
and if these Muslims truly believe in Paradise and Hell, the more they commit crimes, the more it is necessary to fight the infidel, to balance the crimes in the scales of judgement. Perhaps their crimes lead them to the point where only their death in jihad will save them.
The paradise of Islam has always seemed like a looter's dream to me, jewels and wine and women and boys. I don't think they believe they will see God as Christians do, as Allah is beyond any human comprehension. Just material reward, no God.
No doubt there are Muslims who have a much more spiritual conception of heaven, but that's not how I read it.

Bump for later reading!
1. Islam has a strict system of salvation by works.
2. You cannot know if your good works are enough to pay your way into Heaven -- unless you are a "martyr" in Jihad (killing "infidels").
3. Jihad is the only sure way of salvation.
4. Therefore, the only "good" work that matters is Jihad -- any concern about morality at best cannot win you salvation and at worst could impede your effectiveness at Jihad.
5. Morality and ethics only have relevance in one's dealings with like-minded Muslims anyway, because there can be no true discourse between a Muslim and an "infidel."
6. A Muslim who converts to the Jihad way can practice all manner of vice and it will not count against him -- vice that serves Jihad guarantees one's place in Heaven.
7. A "bad" Muslim who is concerned with morality and conscience rather than Jihad is neglecting his duty and is a fool who will probably go to Hell.
8. Non-Muslims can convert to the Jihad form of Islam and they don't have to turn away from their vices or change their lifestyles. All they have to do is play lip-service to Islam and make sure their activities (including or especially their vices) serve Jihad.
9. Muslims are encouraged to sin so that Jihad may abound.
These are very powerful, cult-like ideas. It is understandable how this mixture of mideival fanaticism and post-modern amoralism appeals to disillusioned communists who are looking for a new violent utopian ideology. One can see how Western amoralists would flock to it (especially if the amoralist has sadistic or violent rather than plain hedonistic tendencies). It gives Muslims (especially disaffected young people) a seemingly easy ticket into Heaven (while encouraging youthful vices). It encourages ordinary criminals to continue being criminals, and all they have to do is contribute to a cause that will destroy the society they hate. Thus even a petty criminal can feel like he is a big-shot because he is aligned with a big movement like Jihad, and Jihad gives him an easy justification for his vices and crimes.
