Reagan & The Lack Of Decency On The Left
Right Wing News ^ | June 11, 2004 | John Hawkins

Posted on 06/11/2004 9:18:39 PM PDT by Conservageek

This week, the behavior of many people on the left has been not just boorish, but despicable and beneath contempt. Even though I'm very familiar with the "everything is politics" mentality of the left, I was surprised at how so many liberals just couldn't contain their hatred until the body was in the ground.

And I'm not talking so much about the left's petty complaints that the coverage of Reagan's death was "excessive" (although it was particularly crass & crude of Wonkette to describe it as "Gipperporn"), the neverending stream of attacks on Reagan & his policies, the Gipper being trashed in the comments section of John Kerry's official blog, or even Bill and Hillary Clinton both nodding off while they were sitting in the front row at the funeral....

No, I'm talking about the vast numbers of left-wingers who hurled the most the most vile and sickening epithets imaginable at Ronald Reagan, while his wife, children, and the rest of the nation were in mourning. I'm talking about people so lacking in basic, fundamental, human decency that they couldn't even wait until Reagan was buried to vent their spleen at him. Like the protestors who held up Reagan in Hell signs at the funeral today, there have been legions of left-wingers who just couldn't help but say things like this...

"Reagan was such a mean, harsh and heartless b@stard." -- Bartcop

"This man Reagan was 93 years old and out of it with Alzheimer's for many years and I don't see how anybody can summon grief. They proclaimed it a deep religious ceremony. Which it is not. His whole weeklong funeral is cheap, utterly distasteful American publicity." -- Jimmy Breslin, Newsday

"I have boundless faith in the American people, but it is startling to see the lines of people sweating under a hot sun waiting to see Reagan's casket. How could any of them take the dreadful old faker seriously?" -- Alexander Cockburn at Counterpunch

"Ronald Reagan Kicked Out of Hell! Satan Says, “He's Too Dumb.” Reagan Sighs: “I’ve No Place to Go.” -- Gary Corseri from Dissident Voice

"The man whose administration spearheaded class warfare on behalf of the rich, dragged American politics to the right, and rebuilt US imperialism after the Vietnam debacle, is dead. Good riddance." -- Phil Gasper at Counterpunch

"We all know Reagan's legacy, from the Iran-Contra affair to the funding of the Nicaraguan military in which over 200,000 people died. The groundwork for the move steadily to the right happened with the Reagan administration. People want to elevate him to some mythic level; they have their own reason for doing that." -- Danny Glover

"Reagan leaves the building. He put a smiley face on cruelty, but at least he chose mammon over god." -- Richard Goldstein at the Village Voice

(Reagan was a) "cruel and stupid lizard". -- Christopher Hitchens at Slate

"So while others laud Reagan this week, I'm one who won't mourn his departure. If only we could bury his legacy with him." -- Tony Horwitz at the Sydney Morning Herald

"That is not an "All-American" legacy. Reagan projected the sun to mask a scowl. His presidency is indeed extraordinary. It is extraordinary for how easily Americans hail his "optimism." For African-Americans, and all Americans who were targets of his policies, it was open season.." -- Derrick Z. Jackson in the Boston Globe

"I BROKE DOWN and watched some of the all-Reagan-all-the-time coverage this morning. Think I'll watch the funeral. Watching some guy wearing a hat decorated with small American flags I thought, "this is like the death of Stalin." -- Diana Moon at Letter from Gotham

"Reagan was a busy man fomenting murder and terrorism around the world." -- Nathan Newman

"Ronald Reagan was a conman. Reagan was a coward. Reagan was a killer." -- Greg Palast

"The presidency of Ronald Reagan himself was so bad, on so many levels, that as young adults a sizeable number of us could only sputter in impotent rage, a rage summed up nicely by the Crucif***s song "Hinckley Had A Vision." It simply made no sense that an entire country could be run by sinister thugs, all because its spokesperson was a washed up actor with the professional training to deliver the most ridiculous, venal lies with a calming, "Great Communicator" demeanor." -- Geov Parrish at Working for Change

"I'm sure (Reagan's) turning crispy brown right about now." -- Ted Rall

"Ronald Reagan is dead, and the world is no worse off for it. At the best of times, he was an ineffectual dunce. At the worst, he was a dangerous madman who threatened humanity's very survival." -- Colin Shea from The Prague TV Zine & The Smirking Chimp

"Reagan cannot be excused for his utter failure as president, we must never see him solely as a symbol of a shameful era -- because his rise was attributable in part to an inertia and lack of vision that gripped our predecessors on the left." -- Trapper John at the Daily Kos

"So here's to Ronald Reagan, our fortieth president, on the occasion of your passing from this life: f*ck you back." -- Ben Trip at Counterpunch

"With the death of Ronald Reagan the world will now face a weeklong orgy of grandiloquent of US military power and American Imperialism. Reagan was a cold-blooded murderer, a union busting parasite, con artist, and a good liar. I'll shed no tear for the death of a tyrant. Nor will I stand by idly while the truth is sacrificed in a frenzied worship of a demagogue. Reagan was evil personified, he can rot in hell." -- Glen Yeadon from Chile Indymedia & The Smirking Chimp

"When I heard Ronnie Raygun had finally kicked off, I said aloud: "One less war criminal in the world." -- Mickey Z at Znet

Note that these repugnant, sadistic, pitiful excuses for human beings are all columnists and bloggers. Had I chosen to actually pull quotes written by liberals in forums and comment sections across the net, this post would have been ten times as long....and sick. Never has it been as clear that much of the left does not share a common sense of decency with the rest of us...

They will be the first to say "I have Freedom of Speech".

They will be last in it's Defense.

They expect us to handle that small detail.

We will.

I just want President Bush and the rest of us to win one more for the Gipper.

They hate anything that brings people together, particularly in patriotism and faith. It shatters their delusions and obstructs their designs.

my father (a Democrat) came up with "You know, this is the first time Bill and Hillary have slept together in years!

LOL! That is a good one.

Bill and Hillary have to realize, from today's ceremony, that History will not deal so kindly with them...

Thought the same; it surely should be obvious. . .in the meantime, Hillary probably fell to dozing as she was counting the names on those FBI files that she may need as a guest list for Bill's funeral. . .

I'm not sure how saying Pat Tillman joined the military to kill Arabs shows Ted Rall's "anger". His politics aren't angry...their hateful, irrational and deranged.

"He looked more than inappropriate; bobbing to a beat; that was not quite there."

The only place he looks appropriate is in a whore house.

Any bets on whether he was fantasizing about all these people showing up for HIS funeral. How do you think America would treat Clinton's death?

This is just beyond belief.

It's very believable. I was think today that when you have comments like this directed at you, you must be doing something right. If they threaten to kill you - you know you're doing something right.

Even in death, President Reagan is still doing it right - and driving the lefties nuts.

Screw 'em.

No argument. Uncontrolled anger mutates into other things, like hate, irrationality, and derangement.

These people are nobodies.

Exactly right. The truly evil are the ones that are saying nice things about President Reagan now, after years of being his enemy.

at VS Planet, a musicians BBS, one of the lefties posted the Ben Trip piece about the f*ck you back to our late great President.. I just completely went off on the guy, I laid into him so heavy for 2 days, that of course I was then called the reactionary and "baitor"...

Well, several speakers at Mr. Reagan's funeral service have talked about his greatest achievement...bringing down communism.

So, who then would carry such hatred for RWR?

Present day communists! Who else?

Also, making such "shock" comments garners the has-beens listed, a little press attention.

I haven't seen danny glover in any new movies lately, and I've tossed out my "Lethal Weapon" trilogy...(sorry Mel).

It is good to know who the fifth column enemies of our nation are. Dutch has smoked them out for us in one last service to the nation.

Allen (or Alan) Comes just spent the last two evenings on Fox Radio whining that Clinton (X-42) didn't get to speak.

What, and wake him up from his nap?

Homosexual activists cry that Reagan caused great masses of people to die from AIDS by - uh - well, that part they never really get to or agree upon. He is apparently to be blamed for homosexuals having "sex" without using condoms and druggies re-using needles; and we are to believe that throwing money into a federal program would somehow change this.

If anyone can be blamed for allowing others to contract HIV/AIDS - which is a stretch to begin with, since common sense should tell each person that the activities that most increase your chances of contraction are already extremely unclean - it's the activists who lied, or to be unwarrantedly gracious about it, really had a lot of faith in the idea that it is/was a disease that can/could affect middle America, in spite of all the evidence to the contrary.

The day that the average American is at risk of contracting HIV/AIDS is the day that America has already destroyed itself from destructive behaviors.

I think this says it all:

And for more examples of attacks on Reagan this week:

And then (unfounded) political attacks on President Bush using Reagan as a prop:

And one more leftist slam (unrelated to Reagan) for the road:

They have no shame. What's especially unforgivable about the last one, beside the repetition of the "Bush lies" lie, is the fact that our reasons for defeating Saddam are almost exactly the same as our reasons for defeating Hitler: We were defeating a brutal, genocidal dictator in order to free millions of people and prevent the spread of tyranny, not for conquest but to bring democracy where it was sorely needed, after a surprise attack on our own soil woke us to the perils of waiting until the wolf was at our own door, making us realize that dangerous evils in the world had to be addressed before they became fully imminent dangers to ourselves, and we could no turn a blind eye to the present suffering of peoples halfway around the world. That's something that leftists like this cartoonist will "never understand".
