I sniffed all throughout, then started crying during the playing of Taps - and absolutely lost it when Nancy broke down after she was given the flag and all but collapsed on her husband's casket.

That woman has so much class, dignity, and obvious love for her late husband. She also has a strong love for her country, otherwise she wouldn't have allowed cameras at the "private" funeral.

I've been crying on and off all day. I feel like I've lost a good friend.

Rivers and buckets in LA! I am surprised howm much I liked Reverend Dansforth. I loved the reference to "light"...How Americans are children of "light".

I had the same thought. I was wondering if it was a snide remark at President Bush too. I loved President Reagan, and am not that excited about President Bush, but if Ron Jr. Reagan was making a political statement against President Bush's openess about his faith, I think that was pretty low.

One look at Ron Jr should be sufficient for someone to become very suspicious as to his lifestyle.

Yep....blubbering here as well. Mine started when Nancy leaned on the coffin one last time

When Nancy was handed the folded flag and when she clutched it, I could feel her emotion.

Reminded me of when I was handed my Dad's flag...

Only then I was more prepared for it. Where as now, I was just walking into a room with a TV in it and was caught totally off guard.

The rest of the story: I heard Mike earlier say he went to his car and his wife told him he forgot something. He looked up and Pres. Reagan had his arms open, He forgot to hug him goodbye. That got me big time.

Maybe we will see the resurrection of the notion of heroes.

I believe this week went a LONG ways towards that resurrection...and I believe God's own Hand was in it, saving it for this moment in time.

At the casket, I noticed that Michael approached Nancy, came up close, and whispered "I love you" to her. She looked up into his face and said "I love you, too". We couldn't HEAR the words, of course, but we could lip-read what they were saying. That was a touching moment.

Ron Reagan doesn't like GWB. Hey what can you expect he apparently lives in Seattle now. It certainly was his prerogative to eulogize his father as he wished. And other than those couple of oblique references it was a beautiful remembrance.

I bawled through Cheney's eulogy, which was so wonderful. After that I thought I was "all cried out." I held it together all day today, even when Bush 41 got choked up. Then Michael Reagan gave that wonderful, touching speech and I just turned to Jell-o. The remarks that the pastor made to Nancy at the end had me pretty misty-eyed, too. But when they handed Nancy the flag and she clutched it for dear life...and then, after being so composed all week, she began to cry at the casket...well, that did it. I cried harder than I've cried in a long, long time.

Senator/Reverend Danforth was 1,000 times better than that windbag Rev. Wenning. Was it just me, or is he not the most pompous, theatrical, longwinded thing you've ever seen? I thought he'd never shut up. His accent got thicker as he kept on talking. I cut the recorder off a few minutes into his last oration, went outside for a few minutes, came back in, and he was still going on and on and on about himself, mostly...all the while the honor guard is standing there holding the flag.

"I just don't want to give him up."

Thankyou for confirming my impression. When she lingered for so long over his casket, I said to myself, "oh, she can't let go of him." It just breaks your heart to watch something like this.
