Casket's a little off-center, eh?

Perhaps a bit to the right? I'd say that was fitting, indeed.

I keep telling my wife the reason I'm crying is because of the medication.

I heard they were going to remove his flag and present it to the USS Reagan captain, who will then present it for keeps to Nancy.

I will be most grateful if you would. Isn't it soul-satisfying that your dad can enjoy beautiful music?

"She has to live with the burden of her own youthful indiscretions."

As do I, and many others. We hope for redemption, and find it in the Lord.

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword;
His truth is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.

I have seen Him in the watch fires of a hundred circling camps
They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps;
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps;
His day is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His day is marching on.

I have read a fiery Gospel writ in burnished rows of steel;
“As ye deal with My contemners, so with you My grace shall deal”;
Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with His heel,
Since God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Since God is marching on.

He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment seat;
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet;
Our God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on.

In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me:
As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free;
[originally …let us die to make men free]
While God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! While God is marching on.

He is coming like the glory of the morning on the wave,
He is wisdom to the mighty, He is honor to the brave;
So the world shall be His footstool, and the soul of wrong His slave,
Our God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on.

Thatcher's speech was it for me.

When Prime Minister Thatcher spoke of Mr. Reagan's ascent to Heaven and mentioned that "he is himself again..." I finally lost my fight as well.

Heard some elite moron today say he doesn't see how Bush could govern with only 51% of the vote next time.

Never mind that slick only got 43% of the vote the first election and 49% the second time.

It's also good for people to have long funerals. Lets you grieve and remember and know how much people loved the person you loved. I'm glad it's part of our culture instead of having to bury the person on the day they die.

I'd like to use your post as an occasion to put in a good word for funeral directors.

They provide an immeasureable service for our families, and make sure that we get through these difficult times.

And, you can see how precisely and detailed this funeral has been. I would encourage everyone to at least write down your desires and plans for your own funeral, in advance, whether or not you choose to spare your family the ordeal of picking out a casket, a vault, etc.

You can make certain that, in some small way, you are remembered in a special way by those you leave behind.

Oh, please tell me this is a joke.

Actually, it is me venting about The Los Angeles Times "Pravda-Deluxe"
reporting of the large crowd that turned out to try to persuade the LA
City Council to not erase history by bending over for the ACLU.

I apologize if some folks thougth I was profaning this solemn occassion with jocularity.
I was out to prepare some folks for the sort of vitriol that will await us
on "the morning after" this significant event.
I guess this was sort of the inverse of Gary Trudeau's (Doonesberry, sp?) trips into the
brain of our beloved President being laid to rest today.

This is the flag that flew at his first Inauguration which also flew over the USS Reagan when Nancy Reagan brought the ship to life is what I heard earlier. The Captain of the USS Reagan will present it to her.
