CNN's Bernard Shaw: Media Failed America By Not Showing Good Side of Reagan

"We in the media failed the nation by not reporting these things about Reagan at the time.

"I have learned a lot about this side of Ronald Reagan...things I never new before. So I, too, have failed America."

[paraphrased]

More..

Bernard Shaw: "Can I say something that touches on a very sensitive issue? The news media, and how we failed to thoroughly cover and communicate the very essences we're talking about possessed by Ronald Reagan. What I've been reading and what I've been hearing, I did not get during his two terms in office. Or did I miss something?" Wolf Blitzer: "I think you're on to something, Bernie, uh.. "

Shaw: "I think we failed our viewers, listeners and readers to an appreciable extent. I can't quantify it, but I'll put it there. Because I certainly missed a lot."

Right! But still they know everything so much better than we do

Of course they do. And we are so fortunate to have a media consisting of these highly educated, well trained deeply caring individuals attempting to pull the wool over our eyes condescending to instruct us, the little people, in things which we clearly do not have the capacity to understand.

We should be powerful and single minded in battle and magnanimous in victory.

Exactly! I am greatly disappointed in the FReepers and some in talk radio to completely fail to understand what a true victory this and so many other things are! This is not a time to attack the mainstream media, this is a time to praise it loudly!

Someone with Reagan's perspective on this would be overjoyed, like the boy looking for the pony in the piles of manure story....CNN has long been that manure, but I am astonished to see that Shaw-of all people- is providing the pony for falsely condemned conservatives.

Even in death, after disappearing for 10 years, Ronald Wilson Reagan has won hearts, changed minds, and made the world a more pleasant, optimistic place.

In the word you used, Reagan magnanimousness has spread to CNN. God Bless America.

I'm sorry, I keep reading and rereading your post and all I see is sarcasm. Something like, we reported on the guy for eight years and yet all this stuff going on right now is just puff, he wasn't really THAT good of a President. Maybe I need a nap.

Bernard Goldberg is a hero. He stood up to CBS and told the truth about liberal media bias and took a financial hit for it. Now he's pretty much a pariah. Your transcripts seem to match the Bernard Goldberg I have read and listened to since his liberation from the lamestream media.

Bernard Shaw belongs with Wolf-n-Judy.

Oh yes! Carefully they remove all extraneous matter (such as facts) so that we can come to the "correct" conclusions!

The entire editorial staff and on air personnel of CNN should get on live television and admit that they viciously slanted their coverage becuase of liberal bias and they should further confess that on every major public policy and foreign policy issue of the 1980s that they were wrong and Ronald Wilson Regan was right.

Chill! That is simply never going to happen. Grownups, and those who are boomers that simply aged like those at CNN don't fall down and prostrate themselves like you are calling for. Its unreasonable, and counterproductive to think in those terms. This is a huge victory, for them to say that means they are thinking that in those editorial rooms. His affect on so many is making them question themselves, that is all one could ever hope for.

The Gipper won them over in the end.

Yes, I'm really sorry I jumped the gun on the name. It was an honest mistake. I certainly didn't mean to offend.

I think this is more due to the fact Shaw doesn't work for CNN any longer than anything else. The "Turnerization" of the news during the Reagan era is a well known, under reported fact that has been confirmed to me personally by a former news anchor there during that time, and after.

The ongoing problem for Liberals everywhere is the fact that the truth always will come out....be it inadvertently, or be it during a National Funeral.

Now I remember why I stopped watching the evening news as I had developed a habit during the Iran hostage situation. Every thing Dutch Reagan said or done was held up to high scrutiny by the talking heads. In the long run they were proved wrong and yet today they still can't believe they wrer skunked..

I think I just saw pig poop drop from the sky onto the lawn

Naw, I think that was Clinton's airplane flying over. See, he could even hit your lawn from 30,000 feet. I am very cynical about Shaw. I wonder what ulterior motive he has for doing this?

The American people didn't miss it, even though the media did, and yes, you did fail the country. You're doing it again with another fine man right now.
