TEL AVIV, Israel, June 11 (UPI) -- A Palestinian couple frustrated over their inability to marry approached Israeli lines hoping to be shot together, it was reported Friday.

Soldiers suspected the couple were not militants and held their fire, the Yediot Aharonot newspaper said on its Web site.

The couple in their late 20s have been friends for six years and upon questioning, told officials they could not marry because of a dispute between their families, a military source told United Press International. They decided suicide was their only option.

They approached the Kfar Darom settlement early Wednesday. The woman dropped her bag when soldiers approached and hugged the man when soldiers pointed their guns at them. Soldiers asked the woman to move aside so they could search the man, but she would not let go of him until shots were fired in the air.

After searching and questioning the pair, the army released them, confident they were not affiliated with any terrorist organizations.

I suggest you go on some muslim websites and post that, and then come back here and post us the links that show all the love and agreement you get from your co-religionists.

How's this from a moderate, I won't embarass the thread with more radical state approved PA, Saudi or Egyptian sermons. The conclusion is always the same.

Qatar sermon : "O God, deal with the oppressive tyrants, including Zionists and Americans"
[FBIS (US Government service) Translated Excerpt] [With thanks to www.mideastweb.org/mewnews1.htm ]
Doha Qatar Television Service in Arabic, official television station of the State of Qatar, carries at 0849 GMT on May 14, 2004 a live sermon from Umar Bin-al-Khattab mosque in Doha. Shaykh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, an Egyptian cleric based in Qatar, delivers the first sermon, in which he continues with his earlier subject on "purification of the soul." In this sermon he dwells on the importance of repentance to God.

In the second sermon, Al-Qaradawi reviews the history of the Zionist Movement to set up the State of Israel, as well as the current struggle by the Palestinians for statehood. Referring to recent Palestinian developments, he says: "Look what happened in Rafah yesterday and what is happening every day. Where are the Arabs and Muslims, United Nations, Security Council, Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Conference? They are as silent as cemeteries. They are not doing anything." On the contrary, he says, the Arab and Muslims are ready for jihad, but they would not be allowed by the frontline states.

Regarding Iraqi developments, Al-Qaradawi says: "Bush failed miserably when the Iraqi people did not respond to his wishes, but resisted him with the weapons in their hands. They declared their rejection of the occupation. Bush also failed when his soldiers committed terrible atrocities against humanity. Bush, who came to spread civilization and freedom, brought beasts that committed these great sins and shameful acts. Where is the civilization, O Bush? Where is the liberation you brought for the Iraqi people? You only came with destruction, ruination, shame, and disgrace for this people."

The imam concludes with a general prayer: "O God, support our brothers in Palestine, Iraq, Kashmir, Chechnya, and everywhere. O God, support the oppressed mujahidin everywhere." He prays "O God, deal with the oppressive tyrants, including Zionists and Americans and their supporters. O God, take them and their supporters with Your might. O God, inflict Your might on these criminals. O God, remove their state and rule from Your land and never let them harm Your faithful subjects. O God, we ask You to turn against them and spare us their evils."

Please. The tax paid by dhimmis was far in excess of that paid by muslims, and deliberately so, in part as an incentive to get them to convert. Dhimmis had property rights, and some protection under the law, but they were second-class citizens in every way, and were subject to oppressive and humiliating restrictions. If you were taught otherwise, then you were done a grave disservice.

"you know the leaders dont always reflect the view of the common man. not like here in america."

That would be true for Iran, but I'm not convinced that it applies to other Muslim countries.

If you don't mind my asking....how and why did you convert to the Muslim religion?

Now for the question: If Muslims do not Condemn, and stop those among them who are radicals, how can they expect us to believe they do not support them?

Some do, but few. An interesting web site (there aren't many) Islam in Alaska. I notice they now note This website has NOT been updated since November of '03 due to a family crisis . The last time I looked, probably a few months ago, I'm certain the reason given was strife in the local Muslim community (Anchorage). Anyway, Anchorage Freepers have some peaceful Muslims in their midst, and some not so peaceful. Wish I could find you more examples.

In order for your terminology to be correct. Allah would have to be considered G-D....and I for one dont consider Allah to be anything remotely close. Since you just started freerepublic you obviously dont understand that your comment wont go over well with this crowd.

You make me curious: By your definition of muslim, what percentage of people who call themselves "muslim" would you estimate are not true muslims?

"Muhammad is an excelent example to mankind." I REALLY HOPE YOU ARE KIDDING!!! First of all this Man loved little girls, second of all, after creating the "religion of hate" he proceeded to massacre anyone who would not believe what HE said was the truth. What an example, we should all be so kind and loving.

"there are some hateful people in here with nothing better to do than bash other people's faith"

I wonder what brought out the hate for your so called religion?

Do you have any idea what the word for a black person is in Arabic? Do you know that that same word refers to a slave and is used to this very day.
