U.S. Charges Australian Linked to al-Qaida

WASHINGTON - An Australian held at the Navy's prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, will face a military tribunal for allegedly training and fighting alongside members of al-Qaida in Afghanistan (news - web sites), the Pentagon (news - web sites) announced Thursday.

Yes!!! I was leery to couch it that way (being our anniversary and we had half joked about the odds of something major occurring) but it was very alarming. We had the radio on and there was no indication of anything going on (as if we were seeing things,lol.) The sirens weren't going off, beautiful day etc.

On the way home at night we did note lots of grey towers (gwen?)lit up all along the river in the southern end. These were all erected after 9/11. At one point driving south of Lancaster it looked like a giant "battleship" game off to the right as there were also some lines of red horizontal lights intersecting the vertical tower grids.

Yes there has been a major change in air traffic here but that is to be expected as we are 10 miles from several "concerns" as the bird flies. I still see some very high altitude traffic, mostly military I think and the "guard" jets that circle the region.

It’s been theorized that terrorists are using celestial events such as comets, Venus, etc. to plan possible activities. We are in some very eventful solar times. Why are they not relevant? This information is useful. Though some of the information offered here is fringe, most of it is still valuable . . .just my humble opinion . . .

Well, I hope Georgia is not a priority target but...as you mentioned there is the CDC and isn't the Atlanta airport one of the busiest, if not the busiest in the country?

It's been a couple of years since I originally posted that, and I've changed my opinion on Atlanta being a target.

Not only is Atlanta's airport one of the busiest in the country, Atlanta is also a major railroad hub. There are two large military facilities here.

What really makes me nervous isn't within the city of Atlanta. I live about 20 miles west of the city. 40 miles further west(Up wind) of me is Anniston, Alabama, where there is a large military facility that stores and destroys our stockpiles of Chemical and biological weapons.

Disabling GPS over the east coast on demand would make a pretty hard to launch a cruise missile from a distance without being detected and navigationally disabled.

Now that makes sense. It seems there is *something* out there that uses GPS and the ability to disable it would be pretty important. I wonder how this ties into the navy being all out of port? Also, did't they arrest someone - ME type - and find a GPS device in a hotel adjacent to the World Trade Center? He was later let go and they said the chamber maid confused the room number.

This kid is way too bright (Georgetown student) to waste his time outside in the heat getting sprayed with anything. He's going to be inside the RAT convention angling for position in an influential RAT office. The kid reminds me of Josh Lymon or Sam Seaborn from "The West Wing." A thought I had was that this is and asteriod "cloud" and not the minute debris left by a comet that is the genesis of most of the major meteor showers.

If that's the case, I can imagine way fewer yet larger debris chunks.

The debris burnt off a comet as it traverses the solar system is going to be uniform and mostly very small.

The debris following an asteroid could be several orders of magnitude less in quantity, but have more mass/object.

This would explain a lack of an associated increase in visible meteor showers.

HUMAN CHAIN AROUND NUKE SITES

MEMBERS of Iran's hardline Islamic Basij militia have formed a human chain around the Islamic republic's first nuclear power station, and have vowed to defend the facility to their "last drop of blood", the official news agency IRNA said today.

The agency said the protest at Bushehr - sparked by fresh pressure on Iran over its nuclear program from the UN atomic energy watchdog - took place on Tuesday and yesterday.

However, there were no photos or television images of the symbolic act of defiance by 400 student Basij, as the site is subject to tight security.

The power station, situated on the Gulf coast and being built with Russian help, is still under construction.

"The students of the Basij formed this human chain to tell the western countries ... that they will defend, to their last drop of blood the achievements of Iran in the domain of nuclear technology," a Basij official, Ali Kamal Chonbadi, was quoted as saying.

"We will continue this action until the legitimate rights of Iran are secured," he said.

IRNA said a similar protest also took place in the central city of Arak, where a heavy water reactor is being built.

Protesters reportedly chanted slogans against Britain, the United States and Israel, and also called for the breaking off of diplomatic relation with France and Germany.

Britain, France and Germany have drawn Iranian ire after proposing a draft resolution to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna that calls for the probe into Iran's suspect nuclear program to be stepped up, and chastises the clerical regime for its failure to allay suspicions it is seeking nuclear weapons under the cover of generating atomic energy.

I know I'm behind on the thread, but, this bears repeating:

But Tucson police say the killing of 32-year-old Scott Hunter doesn't appear to have anything to do with his job. At the same time, police say they have no motive and no suspects.

Now, if they have no idea as to motive or suspects how can they conclude the murder had nothing to do with his job???????

This PC mind-set is what is going to do us in!

On the main news forum this morning there is a headline "Bin Laden cannot be named in Damra trial". Why? Might, just might, taint the jury! WTF??? (Excuse me).

We cannot, as a society or a country, continue to coddle everyone because we might hurt feelings or offend. We either need to behave as the Israelis do and go on the defense, or, we need to hire the Israeli military to come do the job. But, worrying about everyone's rights and feelings is only going to embolden the terrorists.

Sorry for the rant, I'm not a morning person.
