LIVE THREAD: Pres. Bush pays respects and calls on Mrs. Reagan

Posted on 06/10/2004 2:28:07 PM PDT by alisasny

Alot of dignataries are now showing up to pay respects. McCain, Guiliani, Gorby, Karzai, etc.

Cspan has live coverage. Bush expected at 7 but could be earlier? He is then going to visit with Mrs. Reagan.

Guard changes about every half hour at .28 and .58 of the hour. One is going on right now.

I saw the clip of Walesa kneeling and I almost lost it.

This man knows that his people's freedom is President Reagan's doing.

God Bless you President Reagan and Prime Minister Lech Walesa.

Thanks. OK, all white is Navy. Earlier today there was a guard in a white jacket, white trousers and white dress shoes, not the laced leggings. Is he a different rank in the Navy?

RE Prime Minister Lech Walesa.: I saw him live, it was touching, this man got on his knees before the casket and honestly prayed. Amazing that it is so rare to see in this century. Dems looked so lost at the wellstone funerally it was pathetic.

That's good. But it means a longer wait, I suppose. The Air and Space Museum sits between 4th and 7th Streets, SW. If that's the case, then they're using the second overflow area that parallels the museum. We could be in line all night....but that's fine.

So he's coming to the Rotunda .. why ..?? He already paid his respects in CA. There's no need to do it twice .. he just wants to get more political mileage ..?? Believe me .. his stunts during this time are not endearing him to the people.

The diffence, I believe, is that respect displayed for both is evident. The welstone "memorial" was not a memorial it was a display of the lack of respect from the so called friends. Judging from that "memorial" he had none because they used his cold corpse as a doorstop to prop open a door of opportunity for an election victory.

As a registered voter, you don't spend 5-8 nameless hours waiting in line just because you seriously think it will bring election victory to the polls. What you see with reagan would have happened regardless of the when.

The one differnece, the media would have waited till thursday to start bashing Reagan and by reference Bush. If it was after the election, there would not have been the DNC talking points we are seeing, it would be different DNC talking points.

Will do. Bob Dole said today about the great outpouring from the public that "once again Reagan was underestimated."

One poster earlier today said CNN estimated 10,000. The poster said he calculated that 1.8 million will view. [He didn't say how he arrived that that.]

"Does anybody know if cspan will be re-airing the Bush visit?"

I'm sure they will sometime, but so far, there hasn't been any advance notice. About 45 mins ago, they suddenly stopped the live coverage and showed the replay of President Bush, Gorby and Lech Walensa's visits to the rotunda.
