Liver cancer is a horrible death. My heart goes out to him and his loved ones.
BTW 11/05/2004 will not happen until about five months from now.

He looked down into her brown eyes,
And said: "Say a prayer for me."
She threw her arms around him,
Whispered: "God will keep us free."
They could hear the riders coming,
He said: "This is my last fight.
"If they take me back to Texas,
"They won't take me back alive."
There were seven Spanish angels,
At the altar of the Sun.
They were praying for the lovers,
In the Valley of the Gun.
When the battle stopped and the smoke cleared,
There was thunder from the throne.
And seven Spanish angels,
Took another angel home.
She reached down and picked the gun up,
That lay smoking in his hand.
She said: "Father, please forgive me,
"I can't make it without my man."
And she knew the gun was empty,
And she knew she couldn't win.
But her final prayer was answered,
When the rifles fired again.
There were seven Spanish angels,
At the altar of the Sun.
They were praying for the lovers,
In the Valley of the Gun.
When the battle stopped and the smoke cleared,
There was thunder from the throne.
And seven Spanish angels,
Took another angel home.

There were seven Spanish angels, (at the altar),
At the altar of the Sun, (oh I believe),
They were praying for the lovers (yeah they was),
In the Valley of the Gun.
(Well, well, well),
When the battle stopped and the smoke cleared (there was thunder),
There was thunder from the throne, (oh yeah),
And seven Spanish angels,
Took another angel home.

Damn. That's two great ones
President Reagan met in the Oval Office with Ray Charles and Alan Reich to help launch N.O.D.'s Ad Council campaign.
President Reagan helped launch N.O.D.s Ad Council campaign, which featured musician Ray Charles, who is blind. This campaign promoted the full participation of people with disabilities in American life.

It's good he was able to share his gift. For a while he was the only great thing happening in pop music.

Now all his songs are going through my head.Yep. When I was young, my mom would put us to bed after a busy day and put on her Ray Charles records. I loved laying in bed and hearing his voice in the living room.

I attended one of his concerts in NYC in the 60's.
He had been arrested for heroin possession when he disembarked from his plane.
The police allowed him to give the concert, and when it was completed they walked on stage and arrested him.
He gave a wonderful performance, and my only thought was, "Why can't they just leave him alone?"

I remember hearing Ray-Ray down at the St. Louis arch during the fourth of July celebration.
Well, he did "America the Beautiful" and had everyone on their feet. After his set, my 10 yr old daughter and I were wending our way down to the different food booths on the levy, when we heard this van driving slowly up behind us. The van was Ray's and his driver was trying to make a way out of the crowd.
Ray was waving at everyone and I stood and waved back. My 10 yr old elbowed me in the ribs and said, "mom, he can't see you...."
Anyway, I saw Ray in concert a couple of times after that and one thing you can say - - he never disappointed you. The music was always fabulous!
