OLYMPIA - President Bush will campaign for Republican Senate hopeful George Nethercutt in Spokane next week, and is expected to visit Fort Lewis the same day. The president's visit on June 17 was actually announced by state Democrats, who provided reporters the invitation on Nethercutt campaign letterhead.

Nethercutt's campaign declined comment and referred calls to the White House, where a spokeswoman said Bush's schedule for that date isn't public yet.

I understand (on an unofficial basis) that a rally is being planned for Spokane in conjunction with this event.

I will update this thread with any new information I receive. Also, once this is official, updates will be posted in the Spokane County GOP site.

I will be flying into Spokane for a wedding next week. I will check next week for updates as to when Bush will be there. That would make a nice little addition to my trip.

Interesting that it was published on a demoncRAT website. Who is leaking the schedule or is it ruse to see if the President is really coming to Spokane?

I was told unofficially (by someone in a position to know) that a rally is being planned, so I assume it's happening, or at least that it's intended to happen.

It may be announced tomorrow. According to this Seattle Times story:

"Spokesman Ken Lisaius said travel schedules for the president are traditionally announced the Friday before the next week."

Hi Scott, I see you beat me to it. I talked with Nethercutt Headquarters today. Exact route and time is still under wraps due to security, but President Bush will be at Fort Lewis and in Spokane for Nethercutt Fundraiser. I am disappointed the cost is so high. I cannot attend at that price. I might have sprung for $500 a plate, but cannot swing the $1000 a plate. The Fort Lewis visit will strictly be a visit with the troops. Not a campaign stop, but a presidential visit. I suppose nothing would keep Freepers from a rally outside of Fort Lewis though if the time can be nailed down better.

Yeah, I can't afford it either, but I think a rally outside the event will be more fun anyway (assuming it doesn't rain).

I am also really interested in any public Fort Lewis event, if not Thursday, whenever! Ping me if/when a Fort Lewis schedule comes available!

Also was concerned a little for my friends who will be flying in Thursday for my wedding next weekend, But I suppose they'll fly into McChord and shuttle him in a 'copter to Fort Lewis. Any traffic should just be our own.

We'll see doll? Hopefully, the rally won't be at the same time as the wedding... and you won't have to choose between us!

Spokane Freepers should keep Thursday free if possible. The local GOP is definitely planning a rally in support of the President (though the local Bush campaign is still not confirming the visit). Details are still up in the air, but I'll post here when I find out the time and place.
