Kornblut's Hit piece on Bush/Reagan: "Campaign's Seize on Reagan's Legacy"

Campaigns seize on Reagan's legacy - Anne E. Kornblut, Globe Staff, 6/9/2004

WASHINGTON -- After three days of suspended political activity, the Bush campaign began openly incorporating Ronald Reagan's death into its reelection message yesterday, revamping its website to give Reagan a dominant role and distributing official campaign letters that invoke the former president.

Since Reagan's death Saturday, Bush has repeatedly offered glowing praise of the 40th president in ways that echo his own reelection efforts, but were not overtly political.

Yesterday, his campaign took the refrain into the political realm. Bush officials sent an e-mail inviting supporters to add to a "living memorial" on the campaign website -- one click away from the page that solicits campaign donations and recruits volunteers. Visitors to the official campaign site were automatically redirected to the Reagan tribute, paid for by the Bush/Cheney committee. It replaced the spot usually occupied by the campaign home page.

Uh, dear dumwit reporter-- on the average website, every page can be "one click" away from any other page. And, since the message was sent "to supporters," is that such a stretch??

As if the Kerry campaign would not be using Clinton's "legacy" if they had a chance. For some odd reason the DNC thinks he was a giant in the party. Talk about delusional! The problem is Clinton is still alive and is a narcissistic pain in the rear. Well, it is all about him after all.

The similarities between Bush and Reagan are uncanny, unintentional, and unavoidable. The press has been deriding Bush because he wears a cowboy hat and has a ranch out west, then Reagan dies and all of a sudden cowboys don't seem so ominous. The media is really in a quandry over this, and they boxed themselves in.

Their attempts to downgrade the comparisons are the actions of deperate people. Conservatives have been redefined and we're looking good!

I suspect there's not any kind of fundraising by Bush that she'd approve of.

To take your points further, the mainstream media, in their constant attacks on Reagan, may well have the opposite effect..and end up reminding the "Reagan Democrats" just why they went for Reagan..

You can bank on it. I have a liberal friend who balks at the very idea that this could encourage voters for Bush. Her denial is the very reason that it's true. (Denial being a liberal's best friend.)

That's because the Reagan dems aren't the political junkies we are..They don't watch cable neews.read the papers occasonally..and watch the mainstream media..and when they see the incessant basging of the man they voted for twice...well, they're gonna start to think, and remember..
