" ... but Bill Clinton does not."

He's probably fantasizing about it. Reality is not something high on his list of priorities. He probably thinks that he'll have a history making funeral with people crawling out of the woodwork, out of control over his passing away.

When that day does happen, I'll turn the TV off and not look at the news till it is over.

Expect the famous DeGaul aircraft launcher (too short for landings) to pop a prop.

Capt. Kerr declined to confirm whether Mr. Clinton had filed any funeral plans.

He doesn't because HE DOESN'T EVER PLAN ON GOING AWAY. Sorry for the caps but I just felt like screaming this.

What kind of discussion is appropriate for this post?

If I were a president, I'd probably plan my funeral too. Just like any responsible person should. If I were a great president, I'd want a state funeral like Reagan's. Note that Nixon didn't have one, but Johnson did. What did Johnson do that was so worthy?

During Reagan's presidency, I questioned/disagreed with some of his policies (I was in high school and college at the time and more into my social life). However, when the Berlin Wall came down, the reality of Reagan's efforts came into sharp focus for me.

Now, more than anything, I appreciate Reagan's positive vision for our country and for every one on this planet. That is his legacy.

If he were not worthy of a state funeral, it wouldn't have happened. I don't believe it was a crass political move on anyone's part. It was simply a just end to his life and contribution to our country.

Will Clinton's life end with a state funeral? Don't think so. His legacy is questionable.

Freegards,

Jane

I can understand Nixon opting out (of laying in state at the capitol); I understand the family was concerned it might be too controversial. Why Truman and Roosevelt?

Bill Clinton is undead.

Nice to see a paper write a piece without trying to make a political point....just the facts.

Was wondering about those boots on the horse!

Forcing military men honor a deceased Bill Clinton would be like the Jews having to honor the Waffen SS.

The Reagan funeral is a fitting tribute to a fine American. A job well done, if you ask me.

I assume for the Clinton funeral we just all wear our zippers at half mast to save costs on flags and save time with the salutes :}

Hey don't look at me that way, that wasn't me playing the her-Monica in the side office.

You can't demean the character of a person that has already drug theirs through the gutter.

When Clinton dies I wonder if Monica will be allowed at his funeral. I mean I am sure she probably loved him. He took advantage of his office and seduced a 20 year old girl, she probably was maddly in love with him, figuring he would leave Hillary for her.

That will be a site to see if she went, which she should.

Published reports have said former Presidents Gerald R. Ford, Jimmy Carter and George Bush all have plans on file, but Bill Clinton does not. Capt. Kerr declined to confirm whether Mr. Clinton had filed any funeral plans.

Is that because they can't find anyone willing to show up for it?

Either Bill Clinton thinks he's going to live forever, or we might see the shortest state funeral on record.

According to the Military District of Washington, the reversal of the boots "indicates the warrior will never ride again."

Not ALWAYS true:
Revelation 19
13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God.
14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean.

That's because Silly Billy thinks he's never going to need one. He should be like everyone else?

Mr. Reagan began planning the ceremony shortly after taking office in 1981, a ritual which became customary after the assassination of President Kennedy,

. . . but Bill Clinton does not

clintbilly KNOWS that he's not being left out intentionally as a speaker, that these plans were made long ago. Yet he STILL whines like a 2-year old.

His funeral will be a national disgrace. And, he'll undoubtedly be LATE for it. And, I will not watch one minute of it.

I think Clinton has no funeral plan because he really believes he will be in the Oval Office again. He may begin to make plans around his tenth term or so. Of course since he thinks he is equal to the Almighty I doubt he thinks he will ever die. In his mind God would never have the hubris to strike him down. It seems that delusional thinking is Mr. Clinton's strong suit across the board.

Oh, but I've seen his. (FReepers feel free to add details I've missed). First, Beelzebubba, who will probably die of syphillis or from burns sustained from telling so many lies that his pants actually do catch fire, will be taken to the autopsy room, where it will be confirmed that he has no heart, no guts, no conscience, and an abnormally enlarged ego.

Then, he will "lie" in repose (only appropriate since "lying" and, er, "laying," is how he spent so much of his political career) on the Hollywood Walk of Fame with his casket straddling the sidewalk spots of Alec Baldwin and George Clooney.

After that, he will be flown to Little Rock, where Fidel Castro, the Chinese Premier, Jack Chirac, and--in a rare appearance--Osama bin Laden--will all pay their respects. "This Land is My Land, This Land is Your Land," the popular folk hit by pinko Woody Guthrie, will be performed by the Dixie Chicks, followed by Joan Baez singing "Blowing in the Wind." Barbara Streisand will round out the musical tributes with "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing...." Madonna will then read from the Kabala, and then a passage will be read from the Qu'ran by Danny Glover. Finally, Al Gore's friend from the Buddhist Temple will round out the readings. Okay, somebody pick it up from here.

I posted this question on another thread, but it seems more appropriate here, so I'll reask it.

Is an impeached president entitled to a state funeral?
