Ronald Reagan's state funeral was planned more than 20 years ago, mostly by the 40th president himself when he first entered the White House.

Mr. Reagan began planning the ceremony shortly after taking office in 1981, a ritual which became customary after the assassination of President Kennedy, whose lack of funeral preparations left organizers unsure how to proceed.

. . . but Bill Clinton does not

clintbilly KNOWS that he's not being left out intentionally as a speaker, that these plans were made long ago. Yet he STILL whines like a 2-year old.

His funeral will be a national disgrace. And, he'll undoubtedly be LATE for it. And, I will not watch one minute of it.

I'm still working my way through my first Diet Coke. I am hideously tardy, and still mellow, but I expect to be up to scrappin' level after about six more ounces.

I think Clinton has no funeral plan because he really believes he will be in the Oval Office again. He may begin to make plans around his tenth term or so. Of course since he thinks he is equal to the Almighty I doubt he thinks he will ever die. In his mind God would never have the hubris to strike him down. It seems that delusional thinking is Mr. Clinton's strong suit across the board.

Yes, I heard that his Quaker faith was one reason they kept it very low key.

As far as Clinton not filing any funeral plans, he is always late. He ALWAYS keeps people waiting wherever he goes, and it sounds like he'll be late to his own funeral too.

Gerald R. Ford, Jimmy Carter and George Bush all have plans on file, but Bill Clinton does not.

Oh, but I've seen his. (FReepers feel free to add details I've missed). First, Beelzebubba, who will probably die of syphillis or from burns sustained from telling so many lies that his pants actually do catch fire, will be taken to the autopsy room, where it will be confirmed that he has no heart, no guts, no conscience, and an abnormally enlarged ego.

Then, he will "lie" in repose (only appropriate since "lying" and, er, "laying," is how he spent so much of his political career) on the Hollywood Walk of Fame with his casket straddling the sidewalk spots of Alec Baldwin and George Clooney.

After that, he will be flown to Little Rock, where Fidel Castro, the Chinese Premier, Jack Chirac, and--in a rare appearance--Osama bin Laden--will all pay their respects. "This Land is My Land, This Land is Your Land," the popular folk hit by pinko Woody Guthrie, will be performed by the Dixie Chicks, followed by Joan Baez singing "Blowing in the Wind." Barbara Streisand will round out the musical tributes with "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing...." Madonna will then read from the Kabala, and then a passage will be read from the Qu'ran by Danny Glover. Finally, Al Gore's friend from the Buddhist Temple will round out the readings. Okay, somebody pick it up from here.

As for BJ Clinton, if he could freeze himself in a cryonic chamber he would.

I don't see why he can't. Of course, then he'll really have to rewrite history about his "legacy" -- if future generations know the truth about him, who'd thaw him out?

I posted this question on another thread, but it seems more appropriate here, so I'll reask it.

Is an impeached president entitled to a state funeral?

It is required by LAW that each sitting president make plans for his funeral, right down to picking the funeral home

Surely you aren't suggesting that Bill Clinton is breaking the law? I'm shocked, shocked....

As I recall from a comment made by Bill O'Reilly last night, yes, his Quaker background factored into the decision. Exactly how, I'm not sure.

Regarding Harry Truman, I uncovered this quote from the Truman library:

"President Truman died at Kansas City's Research Hospital on December 26, 1972, at the age of 88. The next day thousands of citizens filed past his flag-draped coffin in the Library's lobby. Following the funeral on December 28, his body was interred in the Library's courtyard. Truman did not want to lie in state in the nation's capital, but he approved the plans for his funeral. After attending several of the planning sessions, he jokingly expressed regret that he would have to miss such a "fine show." The funeral, simplified from the original plan, was more in keeping with what his family wanted."

Regarding FDR, I've read that his body did lay in state in Washington for a day (April 14, 1945). After the funeral ceremonies his body was again placed on the funeral train for a last ride to his home in Hyde Park, New York.

According to the Military District of Washington website, as a past commander-in-chief of the U.S. military former presidents are traditionally accorded a variety of military honors.

Military District of Washington funeral overview

The only President to be impeached was Andrew Johnson. His funeral took place at Greenville, Tennessee on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1875. He was buried at the cemetary which is now his namesake, the Andrew Johnson National Cemetery.

Published reports have said former Presidents Gerald R. Ford, Jimmy Carter and George Bush all have plans on file, but Bill Clinton does not. Capt. Kerr declined to confirm whether Mr. Clinton had filed any funeral plans.

KNowing Bilbo, he is taking notes this week and trying to figure out how he can "One up" the Reagan Funeral. He is so vain he probably will plan for 22-Gun salutes.

SO, what if there was a State Funeral and nobody came?

Clinton doesn't have funeral plans because Satan never dies.
